So, I reversed the TX and RX lines and got some garbage outputs like I did before. I should have mentioned it that earlier. I made a wrong assumption that I was getting garbage because it was crossed.
Paul sent me the software for the new board just now (woohoo!). I have the throttle hooked up properly and the serial connections set up. When I get home tonight, I'll give it a whirl with the correct software.
