The angle of the rear wheel strakes does more than cover over the width of the rear wheel (from what I can tell).

Very interesting, also reminds me of a recent discussion involving a 1959 Buick or something.

SUN11 is the only example I've seen of a high-momentum mud flap (upper left)

...and is opposite to the (what I call) Bonnevette:

It formed a diverging duct. The #11's upswept tail may have been a little too aggressive.
