I agree that we need to choose wisely what to spend the rest of our current one time fossil energy wealth on. Right now we are totally locked in to a system of wealth distribution the requires turning most of it into ever growing amounts of goods and services to be consumed in order to keep the money digits flowing with GDP growth to pay interest on ever increasing debt.

Sea Water process: Keep in mind the scale of our consumption. Right now we are scooping up mountains of minerals with diesel powered earth movers. Do you really think we can deploy neworks of filters to replace this? Where do we get the energy to pump millions of tons of water through complex filter stacks to get a few tons of minerals. All of these Startrek future concepts do not add up for 10 billion people. Humans and our livestock now outweigh wild land vertebrates 50:1
