Why is coal still a thing? It is a big part of what keeps us alive. And is forecast on every study that I have seen to increase (like oil and then gas) basicly until we can't get our hands on any more. Projections are guesstimates of course. The second chart is way short on total energy demand compared to other studies I have seen as what will be required to maintain our current exponential growth in world GDP. But it gives a general idea of what I expect. Total world coal consumption to continue to rise slightly for the next 100 years until it too is limited by availability due to diminishing ER/EI. Or a world economic crash probably much sooner.
