I think that I went 2,400 miles, while the code came back every 500 miles with the old cat with the same manufacturer and part number. It stayed away for 5,000 miles after I
acid-washed it. I don't know how many washes the bleach can provide, but it cost $26 originally, but California98Civic hooked me up for free.
Thanks again!
When the code returned in April I used
CRC's Turbo and Intake Valve cleaner, which is $12 at Wal-Mart.
The can is a little less than half as much as the acid and easier to use, but lasted a little over half as long. Mathematically this is better, but I am going to acid-wash and see if it goes another 5,000 miles.
The one problem with the acid wash was that it removed the coating from the outside and it rusted.
I think that I have lost about a quart of oil in 2,000 miles. I will top up when I get home.
What caused this?
By the way, Evan Fischer cats are back in-stock and I could make this go away for 30 months for $136, although if the oxygen sensors are dirty I can acid-wash them, too!
