2016-06-01 472.37 9.52 $2.179 49.62 "Almost all of this was during the North Carolina trip on the highway, either going there or on the way back, a small amount was spent while in NC. At the start of the tank one of my aero panels came loose, so I took it off the car. I was trying to maintain 84 mph for most of the highway miles."
2016-06-03 509.34 10.066 $2.359 50.6 "Half of this was on the way back from NC aiming for 84mph, the rest was daily driving where I don't try to go so fast. I was missing one of my aero panels for almost the entire tank until the last ~40km where I repaired it. Also, I pumped the tires up after getting back from NC; the two right tires were pretty low, so that probably negatively affected mileage on the first part of this tank and the previous tank."
2016-06-15 599.13 9.15 $2.269 65.48 "All daily driving//commute, shooting for high mpg every time. No funny trips here. FCD said 3.8 average l/100km at end of the tank."

2016-06-29 492 9.549 $2.199 51.52 "No IMA as usual, started out DD, but then went on road trip. Got me to Kentucky. On road trips I try to maintain 84mph, so FE suffers considerably."
2016-06-29 440.92 8.592 $2.269 51.32 "300km of Kentucky mountains followed by rush hour in Cincinnati. I could have gotten into Ontario, but filled up early in Michigan for the cheaper gas price. Trying to do 84mph (135kmh) where I could."
2016-07-05 534.38 9.52 $0.91 56.13 "First 320km was from Detroit to Brantford, ON. The rest was combo city//highway driving in Southern Ontario. No IMA for first 650 km, but at 650 I did an IMA battery swap and I have been testing out the new one since then. Thanks rhall @IC. At this fill up I put in ethanol free, we'll see how well it does.

Also, at 550km I switched from VX rims + all seasons to Insight rims + all seasons front and garbage blizzaks on the back. The blizzaks are at the end of their life, I put them at 35 and the front tires are at 44. The tires on the VX rims were all 42 psi. Going to buy RE92s soon."
2016-07-06 512.01 10.004 $2.399 51.18 "This was ethanol free, and for the first time ever I had a working IMA. (I used it kinda sparingly, I have a no-assist switch, I was a little scared of how to use the IMA properly.) Most of this tank was spent trying to maintain 84mph on the highway. First 60km were in and around Hamilton Ontario, and then from there I did the highway portion and the tank got me to northern Kentucky.

I think when I got the e-free gas, it was at a full-serve, so the attendant may have not filled it all the way up (only heard 1 click) which means this tank will have lower mileage than actual, and the previous tank will have higher mileage than actual, but between the two they should be rounded out.

This fill-up was with regular 87 gas."
2016-07-09 507.29 9.862 $2.129 51.44 "Forgot to add this log, but the info was saved in my phone. The first 400 miles were on the highway trying to maintain 84mph going from Kentucky to Georgia. 2016-07-19 571.85 10.485 $2.599 54.54 "All was commute or in-city driving, no crazy trips. I tried to hypermile like 90% of the time. A little time was spent testing my EFAS switch, it's partially operational, but not ready for prime time yet. FCD read 4.0 l/100km at the end of this tank.

I filled with Ethanol-Free 90 Octane gas, so we will see how the next trip goes."
2016-08-02 683.94 10.142 $2.599 67.44 "Daily commute only. FCD said 3.4 l/100km. Warm weather mostly. The gas used was 90 octane ethanol-free.

At the end of this tank I finally completed my EFAS switch for EOC.

I refilled with ethanol-free 90 octane again. It seemed to help a lot on this tank. I would buy 87 octane ethanol free, but I haven't found a place that sells it near me."
2016-08-15 674.68 10.255 $2.389 65.79 "This tank was with 90 octane Ethanol-free gas. Most was commuting, took one small trip though, and there was more inner city stop and go than usual. Also my dad drove the car once and for the last couple hundred km there was a lot of bg charging. On the plus side, EFAS is working and I got to use it a lot. I also tried pulse and glide on my way to work a couple times.

FCD said 3.5 l/100km. Still on the slightly larger diameter tires, but RE92s are now ordered.

I filled up with 87 octane ethanol free, we will see if that makes a difference or not on my next entry."
2016-08-26 706.19 9.907 $2.059 71.28 "The tank was 87 Octane Ethanol Free. Filled up now with regular 87 Octane gas. Most of this was daily driving, but the last 120~ km was on the highway heading to Insight Fest 2016. (I drive faster on trips.)

The first 179.8 km were with my set of junky tires, the rest was with a set of fresh new RE92's. I think they were starting to get broken in by the time I finished the tank.

FCD said 3.3 l/100km."
2016-08-29 588.44 9.903 $1.999 59.42 "This tank was regular 87 octane gas and I refilled with the same. FCD said 3.8 l/100 km. This was a road trip tank, almost all was on the highway attempting 84 miles per hour but in actuality my average speed was probably more like 60 due to construction and traffic and stuff. On road trips I drive to get to the destination ASAP, but I do use some eco tricks.

Tank was from north Georgia to Sheridan Indiana for Insight Fest 2016, and then the beginnings of the trip back, got just south of Indianapolis.

The RE92s were probably still breaking in on this tank."
2016-09-01 677.79 9.897 $2.199 68.48 "This tank was regular 87 gas, and I refilled with regular 87.

2016-09-12 646.16 10.211 $2.399 63.28 "Filled with 87 Ethanol-Free. Lots of city driving this tank, also not hypermiling to the fullest. FCD indicated 3.5 l/100km at end of tank.

Results are still good (compared to 99% of cars) which indicates that this car is in way better operating condition (as far as fuel economy goes) compared with the condition of the car when I started this fuel log (wrong tires, rims, bad plugs, etc) or when I bought the car.

Also this tank was on regular 87, not e-free or higher octane or anything special."
2016-09-24 746.95 9.796 $2.399 76.25 "Refilled with regular 87 gas. (They were out of e-free.) FCD said 3.0 l/100km. This was my longest tank ever. I tried to use EOC as much as possible, and I drove pretty slow. This was almost exclusively commute driving, but I took some extra trips that are similar to my commute. I was really going for a personal record here. I kept the tires at 50psi.

I was excited because my Lifetime litres/100km (as displayed in the car) nudged down from 4.4 to 4.3. This was the first time I saw it move since I bought the car like exactly 1 year ago, it had been at 4.4 the whole time I've owned it. I drive a lot, 30k km in under a year. (I didn't get it street legal until a month after buying it, so 11 months of driving it.)

Towards the end of the tank I was averaging 2.7 or 2.8 l/100km. For the first like 700km it was at 3.0 but then like 2 days of crappy driving situations bumped it to 3.1. But over the last two days of the tank I tried every trick I knew and reset one of the other trip counters and it showed the 2.7/2.8 which helped bring the whole tank down to 3.0 as displayed on FCD. The Ecomodder.com number on the left is the true tank fuel economy."
2016-10-03 640.76 9.502 $2.299 67.43 "Daily driving. FCD read 3.3 l/100km, tank was 87 octane regular gas, and I re-filled with the same.

I wasn't going super hypermiler record mode this time, I was trying to drive more casually to see what kind of mileage it would get without advanced hypermiling techniques. At the end of the tank, last 150 km, I installed a warm air intake. I also got the ScanGauge to indicate Lean Burn. Previously I was just looking at TPS, and well I can kinda feel it when it goes into LB anyway.

My mom also drove a couple days on this tank, she doesn't know how to hypermile.

The weather started to get cooler. Fall finally began a couple days into the tank. I think it's incredible that the car can average 67 mpg when driven kinda normally."
2016-10-08 618.51 9.884 $2.259 62.58 "This was 87 octane regular gas. The first 450ish km were daily driving, trying to max fuel economy. FCD was reading 3.1 l/100km at 450km. Then the rest of the tank was spent driving real fast, with complete disregard for fuel economy, to North Carolina. On road trips I go for speed not efficiency.

However, modding the car of course helps with that. And speaking of mods, this is my first full tank with my warm air intake. I usually see between 15°C and 20°C above ambient air temp, as measured by an ambient temperature display I have in the car.

The FCD read 3.7l/100km at the end of the tank."
2016-10-12 524.13 9.98 $2.599 52.52 "The tank was 87 octane regular, but this fill was 90 octane ethanol-free, so that's what the next tank will be. FCD indicated 4.2 l/100km at the time of fill up.

This was almost entirely very fast (70 to 84 mph) highway driving on a long road trip. The first bit got me to my destination in NC, then the rest took me around town for a couple days and then back home in Atlanta.

I'm a little perplexed as to how the pumping worked out because the car had 2 bars illuminated for the gas gauge when I filled up, but on my previous tank I was down to 1 bar and the warning light when I filled, yet if you look at the log for this one and the previous one the log says on this tank I put more gas into the car than I did on the other one. I guess I gotta be more aggressive with the clicks of the pump or I gotta use the same pump over and over again. Kinda hard on a road trip though."
2016-10-23 764.91 9.764 $2.279 78.34 "The gas in the tank was 90 octane ethanol free. I filled up with 87 regular. FCD said 3.0l/100km or 76.3mpg at the end of the tank.

This was hypermiling driving. From the minute I filled up my goal was to maximize mpg and go for a record. Things were difficult because the weather really was starting to get colder. Fortunately my WAI was faithfully keeping the intake air between 15 and 25 °C above ambient temperature. I also checked the tire pressure a few times, was running them at 52PSI. I tried to use my EFAS button for EOC as much as possible.

Driving like this, trying to get a personal record, is really hard. I think my next tank I'm going to relax a bit on the hypermiling. From a financial perspective hypermiling to this extent isn't really worth it to me, but like the car's going to do low 60's without me trying to use every trick I have."

This was mostly daily driving, but not trying super hard to hyper-mile. I also gave another driving lesson to my friend who's trying to learn standard transmissions, so that's a lot of inefficient driving once again.

2016-12-15 458.57 9.719 $2.149 47.18 "This was 87 octane ethanol free. There was a tank between this one and the previous tank listed in the log, but the trip got reset so I don't know how far that one was, so I omitted it from the log.

I refilled with 87 octane regular.

This tank, first 60km was commuting, but the next day I started another of my long and fast road trips. I got from north of Atlanta, GA to northern Kentucky, close to Ohio. I was attempting 84mph, so obviously fuel economy sucked. FCD indicated 4.9 l/100km.

No IMA."
2016-12-16 442.85 10.12 $1.044 43.76 "Worst tank ever!! This was the second half of the trip, entirely me driving for maximum speed, forget efficiency!! This was 87 octane regular, and I refilled with the same. This took me from northern Kentucky to Woodstock, Ontario. After that it was only another half hour to my destination. There's a small amount of city driving in here as I made a wrong turn in Detroit, but at least 50% of this tank was spent above 80mph (shooting for 84) and most of the rest of it in the 70's. You just can't hypermile when you're not trying to hypermile.

Also, it was cold, below freezing for this entire gas tank, lowest I saw was -13°F outside. My WAI and craptastic upper grill block were helping though!! I consistently saw (on my SGII) intake air 25°C to 35°C above the outside air temperature. I wonder what this tank would have looked like if I had driven exactly the same, but had none of the mods I've done to the car in place.

I do want to say though, that I think it's kind of incredible that the absolute worst MPG I could get out of this car was 43 miles per gallon, which still blows my first car (the Mustang on here) out of the water.

No IMA."
2016-12-23 502.38 9.84 $0.999 51.05 "Tank was 87 Octane Regular, refilled with the same. FCD indicated 4.5l/100km. Odometer read 792.6km.

At 67km I switched to my snow tires which are 175/65/R14. According to the site linked below that corresponds to a 2.2% increase in speed over the speedometer.

https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=165-65r14-175-65r14

I have therefore corrected the Odometer in this log to 808.5km. Please PM me if my math is wrong.

The snow tires are on steel rims. I am up here in Canada for another week, I will go back to my Insight rims and RE92s when I return to the USA. Most of the driving on this tank was on the highway between Hamilton and Peterborough ON, but there was also a good amount of city driving mixed in.

In the log I corrected the km to 839.47km because of the incorrect tire size. I've still got the 175/65/R14 snow tires w/ steel rims. Maybe 2 thirds were on the highway.

2016-12-30 449.13 9.865 $2.399 45.53 "Tank was 87 regular, and I refilled with the same. First 259km were on my slightly-larger-than-stock snow tires. Odometer indicated 717.7km, I corrected to 722.8km. FCD read 5.0 l/100km. No IMA.

The first 335km were more casual driving with some hypermiling techniques incorporated, and I was seeing 3.5l/100km. But at 335km I got on the highway for my journey back to the USA.

I ended up driving through a snowstorm, and I had great difficulty keeping the car at the desired speed (120km/h while in Ontario) for the long trip. I figured it was the cold weather and the powerful headwind and the snowstorm, later it turned out that I also had a damaged aero panel under the car that was working against me the whole time. More on that in the next log. Anyway, this tank got me to Detroit."
2016-12-30 387.49 9.667 $2.299 40.08 "Going to try out a new log header format:

Used: 87 Octane Reg
Filled: Same
IMA: No
FCD: 5.7 l/100km
Type: Long trip
Goal: Speed (84mph or 135km/h)

Yeah so this is the second portion of my trip back from Ontario to Georgia. I was trying to do 84mph (135km/h) the whole way.

I stopped at about 340km into the tank because of my persistent difficulty maintaining those speeds. Earlier in the trip there was very harsh weather, but in Ohio it was just cold, no storms or anything. The car was also loaded down with about 200lbs of stuff, but things didn't seem right. I began to wonder if there was a problem with an aero panel under the car, or if a tire was low for some reason.

Anyway, when I stopped, I saw that the front aero panel (which I had trouble with before) was disconnected at the front and acting as an air brake!! My FCD was around 6.5l/100km at this point, totally abysmal, because I had to just keep the pedal on the floor for hour after hour to keep the car up to speed. Anyway, I removed the panel entirely, and I had a much easier time with things afterwards. I mean, still bad econ on account of the speed I was going, but being in the 5's is reasonable. If you look at my log for when I was going up to Canada a few tanks ago you don't see anything as bad as 6.3 l/100km, that's just terrible. Anyway, with that problem solved, I continued and this tank got me to southern Kentucky."
