Current Mods:
Overinflating tires allowed for +11% increase in fuel economy over a 500+ mile test range vs. control. 44PSI in front tires, 37PSI in rear tires (different brands: front tires are Goodyear Assurance max PSI of 51; back tires are Firestone Fuel Fighters max PSI of 44; air added at 82°F so allows cushion of approx. +1 PSI for every +10°F [plus some wiggle room]).
New Shoes! (see main photo). They are from an '88 Foxbody. Tires are a max 44 psi; added 37 psi at around 70°F so it gains pressure up to around 40psi when the tires warm up to 100°F.
Neodymium Magnets surrounding oil filter to catch sub-50 micron particles. This will prevent long-term engine wear.
110 amp alternator (as opposed to 130 amp) with aftermarket voltmeter tied into instrument cluster.
Factory Tach/Speedo from a ZX5.
Calculated odometer correction factor of 7.60986% (likely due to larger tires). (3/17/25) Changed from 215/65/R15 tires to 205/65/R15 tires; new correction factor of 6.9652%. Decrease in sidewall from 139.75 mm to 133.25 mm or a total of 13 mm in total diameter which equals ~0.65% change in odometer reading.
(3/17/25) New Hankook Kinergy 4s² 205/65/R15 directional all-season tires. Pumped up to max sidewall pressure of 51 psi at ~50°F ambient air temperature. Significant reduction in road noise. Better aerodynamics from previous 215s: reduction of forward-facing footprint of 15/16th of an inch in front; reduction of 3/4th of an inch in the rear (7-inch Foxbody rims stick out slightly from body; old 215's bulged out quite a bit). Decided to go with 205's vs. 195's for better ride comfort. Unfortunately, with the directional tread pattern, will need to unmount and remount tires in order to do a proper tire rotation; good news is that the old tires I removed seemed to be worn fairly evenly (<1/32nd difference in wear from inside tread to outside tread).
E-Z Tire Beads in addition to conventional wheel weights (static wheel balance as opposed to dynamic). E-Z Tire Beads don't seem to be a stand-alone solution for passenger cars. Should theoretically prevent long-term tread wear by creating a smoother balance.
No cruise control (aftermarket intake doesn't allow the option)
Driving Habits:
Five under in the right lane; turning off the car at long stoplights (greater than 15 second wait time); don't use the AC, just the vent; slow acceleration (shift points at 2000 rpms); limit braking as much as possible. Almost exclusively ~60 mph in a 65 mph rural highway driving (very consistent, however also very susceptible to fluctuations in weather and temperature as well as wind speed and direction).
Planned Mods:
Cat back exhaust
Water methanol injection
Indexed spark plugs (probably won't do side gapped)
Pulsar spark plugs
Underbody panel in engine bay
Rear diffuser
Ram air intake
EGR cooler
