While working at a car dealership, this gem of a car came in on a trade in. After being appraised for a measly $50 I was able to purchase the vehicle for a dollar over junkyard price: $101. At that time the vehicle had approximately 84k miles on it.
I replaced three of the wheel bearings, replaced the rear brakes, the gas tank and changed the fluids. I gave it a good cleaning and replaced the rotting steel wheels with some alloy 5 star wheels from a VW with nearly new tires that I purchased as a package deal off craigslist for $100.
I have invested approximately $720 into the vehicle, I have been able to reach a level of efficiency 2.9 times greater than my truck. The savings have paid off with almost 3k miles racked up on the Aspire since I took ownership.
