The car was purchased in driveable condition but immediately needed attention to the front and rear brakes and will need the axles replaced very soon. I drive with a light foot now and average 32mpg with an equal mix of city and highway driving.

Drive in town with the windows all down and have a vented seat cover.

Low rolling resistance tires.
Flat wheel covers (aka pie tins)
Maybe a boat tail modification.
