I’ve been riding with that tire at 80psi all summer until the tube suffered a hole... apparently the tube patch didn’t agree with the pressure lol... now I guess I’ll have to buy a new tube, and maybe also a tire that’s actually rated for 80psi lol

80 psi is not unheard-of for bicycle tires, especially skinny ones.

Looks like you might have pinched the tube between the tire bead and rim the last time you installed it. I usually put a little bit of air in the tube -- enough to give it some shape without being firm -- before installing it in the tire. That goes along way toward avoiding blowouts.

the other trick is to remove the core, install the tube/tire, air it up a little, let the air back out to get things right, then install the core and inflate.

I did something like that in the beginning, the tire started coming off the rim and I let the pressure off to straighten it out, then inflated to the 80psi that I rode at...

I used a Slime brand tube patch, but I guess it couldn’t take the pressure... what’s weird is that the tire blew off the rim in the sam place it tried to come off before... I need to buy a tube and reset, try again

Tires blowing off the rim have nothing to do with defective patches. Either a section of the tube got pinched between the tire bead and rim, or the tire was seated very unevenly on the rim (the primary issue with old non-hooked rims was that the tire bead could shift up or down and find a way to blow off.) One other thing to do after mounting the second bead is to go all the way around and press the sidewall away from the rim with your thumbs so you can ensure that the tube is safely inside the tire. Blowoffs should basically never happen.

Assuming my tube is wrecked by the blowoff, I’ll try and be more careful with the next tube

How's the riding going?
I'm trying to squeeze out as many days as I can before I switch to the studded tires for winter.

Admittedly I’ve gotten lazy and haven’t been riding as of late, it’s been really cold and I haven’t felt like replacing my rear tube...

Lazy bones!
And I'm fighting to convince my wife every day to let me ride to work
