Your factory roots blower, yes it has a relatively dinky belt. The ones of which I speak pop out of hoods on big block vintage cars, sit outside of thick walled test vacuum vessels and are also attached to very large displacement engines or anywhere you need to move lots of air like in cement factories and are bigger than your entire engine.

You aren’t wrong, those massive blowers use a wide cogged belt to transmit power, versus a skinny ribbed one. Stands to reason that since the factory blower on these can suck 30hp from the belt, the belt could potentially be used to add around 30?

Torque might be more a matter of concern than power.

Big setback…

So guys, I had a big big setback on this project this week. We had undertaken a road trip to pick up medication for my partner, and suffered engine failure on the way home. It lost power for a short while at around 2700 RPM and made a weird noise which I didn’t initially perceive to be engine related, and by the time I had discovered that the noise could be changed with throttle angle, the more immediate symptom became a ventilated block followed my loss of oil pressure. First engine lasted 234K (admittedly not so easy) miles.

Short term plan is to buy a daily and what I end up with, Will kinda dictate the direction of the build. I either have to buy something super cheap to avoid getting a loan or something nice enough to finance. If I end up with something bigger and or potentially thirsty then I will double down on the efficiency on this build, and if I end up with something frugal I may lean more toward making the thing faster

So is a replacement engine totally out of question?
