2010 Kia Soul-hence the name

I bought the little green brick in August. As soon as it was at 1000 miles I drove it 1500 miles in 27 hours, the return trip I made in 25 hours. That's cumulative with smoke breaks , pee breaks, and gas ups. I have learned that even 68 is better than 72 miles per hour. I swear I saw the gas gauge move with the little tank in this thing. I normally make it from Rapid City to Cheyenne or vice verse with a little less than an eighth of a tank. Since I still have 91,000 left on the warranty I will be going mild for quite a while. There is plenty of aero to improve on this vehicle without totally changing its appearance, which I like.

Welcome to EM! I also want to know how the Soul performs. Kia seems to be on the upswing these days.

The hamsters are cute too ...

It's a groovy little car, and it's been paying for itself so far. I liked it from the first auto show prototype, and I have owned several Hyundais. When I actually drove what became my car, I was happy to see that it pulls like a tractor but a little disappointed by the top end. It has really short gearing and everything is still tight. It spins 3000 at 65 in fifth gear, attributable to the 4.18 final drive ratio. I do have to take it easy in town because it wants to go, go, go from every stop light. Since I haven't seen another "Soul", no pun intended, I'd be happy to mule any ideas as I get the chance.

That'd be sweet to put a little drop and some rims on there

I've already seen the drop springs, hmmm quite reasonable. The picture doesn't do the 18 inch wheels and 225/45-18 tires justice. I might be able to get lighter 18s, but unsprung and handling is definitely not the problem the thing can hustle in the turns.

Regardless of how good it handles, reducing unsprung weight will always help!
I've been drooling thinking about all the fun mods I can make to the 200sx...

Welcome to the site, I've been here a blazing...2 days. Well, 1 really, I was up till 3 am last night reading threads. Trying not to be too big of a newb.

Just thought I'd jump on the "Soul Train" here since I just traded my '03 Hyundai accent in on a '13 Kia Soul. My accent was getting about 35mpg avg before it developed engine trouble, and just the little bit of driving I've done in the soul tells me I'll have no trouble getting at least that out of it. I look forward to any and all ideas about getting better mileage out of my little black box. However, since I use the car for work purposes keeping it suitable for that takes priority, so certain things like lowering it or going w/o a spare tire to reduce weight aren't options for me.

JSYK,

You're responding to a thread that hasn't drawn breath since 2009.

Welcome, by the way. Any plans for your Soul?

It's difficult to say that without sounding like a Jehovah's Witness, so if that's one of your triggers I apologize profusely.

My soul is blacker than Darth Vader's helmet. (:<

I hadn't really paid attention to the date of the last post on this thread.

As for my plans, I'll start with the same things I did to my '03 Accent; E3 Diamond Fire spark plugs, and a warm air intake. I'll follow that with some low rolling resistance tires, and since I won't even think about lowering, under skirting on the front and sides. There's a thread on here about pizza pan wheel covers that seems like a good idea, and probably wheel skirts for my rear wheels. Then maybe some kind of kam-tail/bonnevile spoiler on the back. I also keep seeing converters for my radio antenna that will turn it into a shark fin style antenna, not sure if they actually do any good mpg wise, but they do look nice.
