...doing a little "back calculating" from the statements "Cd = 0.289" and "...10% improvement..." implies the standard Cruze Cd = 0.33, which seems slightly HIGH considering it's chassis-twin, the Volt, is listed as Cd = 0.28.

...I'm guessing it's about Cd = 0.31-0.32.

Impressive numbers. Too bad the price premium is so high at $2600. I was hoping it would come in much lower.

Don't know how 3,000+ lbs is light when the Cobalt was 2,700 lbs and I still consider that overweight.

Wonder why they went with an iron block instead of aluminium?

Still.....42 mpg highway isn't bad.

...the REALLY interesting aspect of the Eco with 6-speed manual is that the same engine and drivetrain are supposed to be used in the 'new' forthcoming Chevy AEVO, which is much, much lighter than the Cruze.

I don't like the iron block either, but maybe it's to make it more durable in tandem with the turbo?!?!?!?! Here's a blurb from the URL that MetroMPG posted :

Quote:
Efficient powertrain

Cruze Eco is powered by power-dense Ecotec 1.4L turbocharged engine and a standard six-speed manual transmission. The transmission's gearing is optimized for the model's specific 17-inch wheel/tire combination and includes aggressive ratios for first and second gear coupled with a highly efficient, "taller" sixth-gear ratio for highway driving. That means engine rpm is reduced on the highway, which in turn reduces fuel consumption. A six-speed automatic transmission is available, with EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 26 city and 37 highway.

The Ecotec 1.4L turbo's power ratings are 138 horsepower (103 kW) and 148 lb.-ft. of torque (200 Nm) between 1,850 rpm and 4,900 rpm. The wide rpm range for the maximum torque – a specific trait of turbocharged engines – helps the engine deliver a better driving experience and performance. The turbocharger is integrated within the exhaust manifold, for reduced weight and greater packaging flexibility.

The engine also features premium design elements that give it world-class smoothness and durability while also contributing to the Cruze Eco's lower curb weight. They include a cast iron block with a hollow frame structure, hollow-cast camshafts and a plastic intake manifold.

Glad it gets 40+ hiway, and glad to have a manual option, and costs less than $40k. But, as others have noted, whys it gotta weigh 3000lbs? Thats why the city mileage blows.

Chevy Cruze does not offer ?hybrid-like? fuel economy | FavStocks
I would have to assume that it would not be the best as a city vehicle, but around where I live, it would be "as good as" some hybrid options.

That favstocks "counter point" suck.
GM's press release never compares the Cruze Eco to the Prius and yet that is the only point that the favstocks guy makes.

While I will say that calling it "hybrid like" is a bit of a stretch as a vehicle of around the same size such as a hybrid Civic gets better city and mixed driving numbers then the Cruze Eco, the fact they they get almost the same highway mileage (Civic 1 mpg higher) in a car that will cost $7,000 less is great.
Not to mention matching city driving only you would have to be comparing a Cruze Eco to a Toyota Highlander hybrid to match city mpg. ;P

While if you live, work, and play in a city this probably is not the car for you if you want optimal mpg at least it's an improvement over the Cobalts 25 mpg city.
