Before we get too carried away, I should say that I expect my actual average mileage for this tank (which is almost over) to come in somewhere between 34 and 35 mpg. But that's an average over 1,100+ miles. Nobody goes that long without having some bad days.

That's amazing, Congradulations on that but for those who say "who needs a 4 cyl car when this pickup can do 50mpg", let's not forget how much work Dave has to do to get that 50mpg. If he drove a Cavalier or a Neon the same way he'd probably get 80mpg

IIRC, 34 MPG would still be well over 100% over the EPA rating for your truck. Congratulations!

I'm only asking because I've seen it before as a tech, but. You are using oil for a "compression ignition" engine, correct? I just don't want to see you ruin your very expensive engine.

It's Amsoil Series 3000 Synthetic 5W30 Heavy Duty Diesel oil. If you look at the tech specs here you'll find it's pretty impressive stuff:
AMSOIL - Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil (HDD)

It's specifically designed for diesels. I don't know of anyone specifically that's run this stuff in a 6.7L Cummins like mine, however, I had heard great reviews from guys who had used it for years in the 5.9L Cummins. The 5.9L was bore and stroked in 2007 to create the 6.7L engine, and I believe the lube system stayed basically the same, so I didn't see any reason why I couldn't use it in my 6.7L.

Damn you Dave!
Up until now, I actually thought I was doing good getting 28mpg average in my 3/4 ton!!

I take some small solace in that, not having any kind of instant feedback, I could potentially be getting 50mpg single trip averages now and then and just not know it, but if you end up with 35mpg tank average its still 3-4 better than the best I've ever gotten.

Alright, I take it back, I'm not upset. This is what one calls "motivation"

Thanks Jacob, but to be fair, your truck is 24 years older than mine. At least a few of those mpg's I'm ahead of you have to be attributable to common rail fuel injection, variable geometry turbocharging, etc. That being said, I envy that weather you have out in CA. Sometimes I think of you on those days when I leave my house and it's 15 F outside...

I would like some more info on this, I have a 95 12v 4x4 CC LB 5.9 cummins and i can get around 24 mpg at 65 mph on the freeway. I Am also a AMSOIL dealer so i'm well aware of the oil used and how awesome it works.
