Lurking is nornal. I was registered and luring on a national firearms act forum since 2007 and made my first post a week or 2 ago. I only needed to register so I could use the search function, as guests can't use the search function.

I already tried using a propane heater. The results were as I expected. It will deice the outside great and fog up the inside pretty good too. It's marginally more effective than using the factory heater alone. But I still have to use the battery heater.

At home I just plug in a 120v little space heater.

I will check out webasto heaters too.

I'm going to have to say that using the battery for heat is a waste.
We had a used 2012 Leaf . Really liked it for an in town only car . But it was rear ended & totaled before winter arrived . So , we never faced the issues you are describing .

Here is a link to Ben Nelson installing a heater in a iMiEV .

Yes the imiev has a tiny battery and uses a resistive heater.
It needs a diesel or gasoline heater if you have cold winter.

I installed a Webasto in my Merc diesel just over a year ago. I love it. Note that Webasto advertises coolant heaters as well as cabin heaters on their web site. I'm only familiar with the coolant heater, which is the one you pictured in this thread. I don't know if the cabin heaters require some sort of liquid for heat transfer, which seems to me would be a bit of a challenge in an all-electric vehicle.

Also be aware that the coolant heater uses something like 2.3 amps to run, which is less than you would consume running the electric heater, but not nothing.

One more consideration is where you mount your combustion air intake. When I drove bus our mechanic said once that most or all of the work he had to do on the Webasto units on the buses was the result of running the unit while driving, which resulting in dust contamination in the combustion air. I sometimes drive my car with the Webasto on, but I was careful to install it in a location where it would pick up minimal dust and gravel. Plus I don't drive on gravel much; very little compared to a rural school bus.

I can't post the link to more info on my install, but if you search my post history on benzworld you'll find it quick.

Yeah I was planning to have the burner on while driving.
I was considering locating the air intake by the grille opening, now I most certainly will.

K&N make small air filters for breather vents and such.

It was 15f this morning.
I ran my little plug in space heater in the leaf for 50 minutes.
It didn't even start melting the frost off the windshield.
That is why a plug in heater running off an inverter isn't going to do hardly anything.

If I set the climate control timer I can get the leaf to power up and use mostly power grid electricity.
I'm not sure if there is another way to do it with the 2011.
