Nice progress. Are you sure the new steering wheel is not from a vehicle subject to the Takata airbag recalls? The last 90s Civics are.

Good call! I'll check the date on it. Worst case, I bet I can swap the skin onto the old airbag hardware.

Civic rotor (worn) : 9.4lbs
Civic caliper (no pads) : 7.3lbs

Insight rotor (new) : 7.6lbs
Insight caliper (no pads) : 4.6lbs

Total unsprung weight reduction in the front of the car: 9lbs

Adding up the wheels and front brakes, I'm at 18.2lbs removed. At some point I'll throw in an Insight ally spare and likely shave another 15lbs, and I'll measure the rear drums when they come in.

More importantly though, I believe the Insight brakes are marginally lower friction.

Nice work! Less weight means it is more dynamically responsive

Got the front passenger side fully assembled, finally. I still need to bleed the brakes so the wheel will come back off, but everything is torqued down. While I had it off the ground I changed the transmission fluid and engine oil (Mobile 1 0w30 AFE, Honda MTF). I also had to grind down a ridge on the axles I bought because they were rubbing the knuckles and causing resistance when I torqued down the axle nut.

Confirmed the Insight brakes and rotors do fit perfectly.

Also the DMV finally cashed my check for plates and registration.

Finished putting the front suspension together on the driver's side, and took the car off jack stands. I did a rough alignment but it'll need a proper one.

Old cluster:

Wouldn't want the odometer to read incorrectly! The clock is actually a pretty cool little piece of engineering. It doesn't come apart easily (my Del Sol one did) so I put it on my drill and spun it back and forth, before realizing it would take ages and just swapped the spool from the other cluster.

New one in place.

Started pulling some of the interior panels and scrubbing them in the tub.

There is a new EM member in the intros subforum who says his main interest is rehabbing old cars. This thread is something he should see.

Insight aluminum drums arrived, as well as a pack of LED bulbs for the cluster and dash.

Also, license plates! I can legally drive it now!

Where did you source the Insight drums? Expensive? I have always wanted them but I have been too cheap for it.
