The F40 has that big wing and a backlight. I'm reminded more of the VW XL Sport.

It looks like VW are following along behind aerohead's lead.

I keep looking at the smoke-flow images of the Aerolid at A2.The separation line is perfect and delta Cd delicious.John should have a great time on the return leg of his trip.Especially with that 'secret-weapon' tail!

My tail is very crude and doesn't incorporate all the tumblehome it might of had.It saved many,many hours of construction time that way,but on your Celica,you'd want to set no deadlines,and slow down to a crawl and spend the time to do a more complex side body than I did.
When I built it I was already thinking of a custom truck box which would have allowed more organic compound shape.So it's a real compromise.
Ford's Probe-IV and V have the 'rectilinear',boxy kind of rear form also,and I looked at them a lot!

VW's Rolf Buchheim and associates has achieved Cd 0.14 in 1981 with this Lang Heck 'Flow Body'.

VW is very aware of proper curvature vs drag and it was Buchheim which recommended a maximum aft-body tangent slope of 23-degrees,right next door to neighbor Mair's 22-degrees of 1968.

We are good right now but the heavy rain is on the way.

I feel the delta Cd calibrated in the wind tunnel test in October of 2007 at A2 might be a bit erroneous. The cross section of the A2 tunnel is the same size as or even smaller that the Darko tunnel. My 2006 F 150 which the Aerolid was on has a greater frontal area than your truck ("Spirit of Ecomodder").

Due to the small cross section of A2 and the large frontal area of my truck, I feel the delta Cd number may even be better than calibrated. I wish Ford would have shared the delta Cd with me back in August of 2007 when they tested my lid in their wind tunnel in Michigan. The cross section was cavernous!

Hopefully John will get some good mpg numbers with the Aerolid alone and with the combination of the large boat tail on his new F 150. Also, you did one fine job in crafting the "Spirit of Ecomodder". You are as good a craftsman/Engineer as anyone I know.

Hey Brett,thanks for the insight.Perhaps one day Ford will find it in the heart to declassify the data.We sure could benefit from it.
Regardless of the numbers,the smoke flow reveals an extremely healthy boundary layer over the Aerolid,and your eye-balling has produced a high bar in cap design.The tail too!
November won't get here soon enough! I'm like a kid waiting on Christmas!
Appreciate your comments on the T-100's build.I do aspire to do some OEM-appearing mods one day.Just like yours!

Once I discovered the belly damage,I retraced my 'steps' to the lake entry where I retrieved the diffuser,got up on the service road where I could jump on it and beat it a rubber hammer to get it inside.
Then I was off to the car wash in Wendover,Nevada,where I could get the salt off enough to remove the remaining belly section.
I found a flat-faced rock,and with the mallet,got it straightened enough to store it inside with the diffuser.
I made it to Scaled Composites,at the Mojave (California ) airport/spaceport,but alas,no one was 'home.'
In Arizona I ran across these early pickups.
