He sure is! I need to rebuild my wheel skirts and strakes (they are literally falling apart) and I will be making something similar.

Thanks, I have to admit I have gone into "extreme hypermile mode" lately. In addition to adding as many EOC miles as possible, my average speed has gone from around 45 mph to closer to 40 mph. I still try to maintain 55 mph on the interstate portion of my commute, but have found 4 hills that I can pulse up to 65 mph and get great EOC results due to the aero mods when coasting back down to 55 mph

On the country roads, I am now coasting down to 30 mph instead of the 38 mph I was going in the past.

I have found the month of August to be the best time for the greatest MPG. This has motivated me to see just how much I can get out of my aero mods.

They should declare August as NATIONAL HYPERMILE MONTH!!!

Why do you fill up when the tank is half empty?

I just got this question in a PM, so I thought I would answer it here in case anyone else was wondering.

My first reason is that modern fuel pumps are located in the fuel tank so the gasoline can help keep the pump cool. I burnt up a fuel pump once when I ran my tank down to almost empty on a 100 degree summer day. Since then I always keep the tank half full. I figure even when it is not real hot outside, the fuel pump will be less stressed if it is kept cooler. Replacing a fuel pump on a modern car is very expensive, messy and time consuming!!

The other reason is I live out in the country and in case of an emergency may need to drive several miles without time to find gas.

August has the added benefit of less traffic due to regular commuters transforming into vacationers allowing for more flexibility in our driving.

NATIONAL MILEAGE MONTH might go over better with the anti-hypermile public.

And excellent work on the mileage!

Where do you pulse up to 65 mph, at the peaks of the hills?
