Do you know the [www.google.com/amp/s/] prepended does nothing except ping Google?

He's prolly not wrong, but this is the same J. Clarkson that staged a battery-empty scenario in their Tesla review.

I've learned to disregard virtually everything Clarkson says regarding efficiency, electric vehicles, or people who aren't Brits. I recommend you consider this approach too, as it may help you cut past the naysayers.

Let me rephrase that.

I have no idea what the StarShip 0-60 time will be. I'm only interested in a 0-60 time when I'm drag racing. 0-60 has nothing to do with trucking, no matter what Elon Musk thinks or says. A balls-out 0-60 launch in a semi would consume a massive amount of fuel or amp hours. To an Ecomodder, doing such a launch in a semi would be committing a felony against Newton's first law of motion - sometimes referred to as the law of inertia. An object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. And a fully-loaded semi is a massive object at rest.

I have been playing with my new PedalCoach device in my street car for the past week, from my new partners at LinkeDrive. I wanted to get a feel for the unit before I install it in the truck. With the PedalCoach, it's blatantly obvious how much fuel is required to overcome a standing start. It is substantial in a 2 ton car. It is astronomical in a 40 ton rig.

Understood, I thought it might be stand-in metric for the performance envelope. It worked for Fords 'n Chevys on airport runways in the 1950s. Isn't there a point where the cost for the driver's time and the cost of energy curves cross?

I drive a 1 ton car with 48hp/56lbf⋅ft. My 60-foot times are as good as anyones.

0-to-60

The only benefit I could discern, would be gridlock behind a semi which cannot make it through a green traffic light, due to very slow acceleration, after the cars which preceed it, have already cleared the intersection.
I saw this with a Swift rig when I went to meetup with BamZipPow.Perhaps, ten cars, which otherwise would have cleared the intersection, had to wait on at least one more signal light cycle delay before proceeding.
It's a lot of zero-mpgs for the other motorists.

Commercial traffic a fact of life. And automated manual trucks with “efficiency” programming dead slow. With a ten speed, even more so.

I’d have thought this was where Engine stop in cars was the benefit.

Yes,there'd be a lot less pain with vehicles with auto-stop-start/hybrid/or EV.Not so good for those without.

I literally came from this page to here. We've got a live one.

I think big rigs clearing the intersection expeditiously on Green is a win for everyone.
