The skirt is only held on by will power.
I am thinking that will not work at speed.

The otherside is still a work in progress.

Inside Air Dam / Inside Skirt



With the rear skirts in place it was time to address the air movement in the wheel well. With brake lines, anti-lock sensors and emergency brake cables in the front half I didn't want to risk friction wear through. The back side is another story. It was blocked off to a greater extent and matches closely to the rear belly pan.

Air-Conditioning pipe insulation.

Underhood temperatures often exceed 100 degrees. The cold line of the air-conditioner and the cool return lines from the evaporator pass through the hot engine compartment. They are often wet and covered with condensation.

It occurred to me that these lines would benefit from insulation so I went to the Home Depot and purchased some insulation for 1/2 inch copper pipe and insulated my pipes. I think that this will increase the efficiency of the system.

Anyone else do this?

Since they were cold and were wasting that cold inside the engine compartment,
It would be a good guess to say the AC is going to put out cooler air than before.

An increase in overall efficiency and a nice increase in comfort.
Some ACs have a real thermostat that turns off the compressor after the cabin cools off,
but mine is manual. I have to hit the green button when I want to drop the compressor solenoid.
Either way, it saves gas when the compressor isn't pumping..

Freaking French-Air-Brake aka Skirts.

Well it is official campers two tanks of gas later and the skirts are nothing more than French-Air-Brakes.



All on the same stretch of highway, all at 65 mph on cruise control

Previous high mpg 42.434 mpg (CDN)

With the French-Air-Brakes on 36.702 mpg (CDN) temperatures warmer air on all the way.

With French-Air-Brakes removed 40.055 mpg (CDN) even hotter temperatures and air on all the way.

Well that was a very interesting and counter productive experiment.

I will be skirtless from now on.

perhaps with a cleaner junction between the body and the skirt you wouldn't have such an air-brake effect.

This looks like a job for cardboard and tuft-tests!

Maybe you should try using Moon disc back there.?.

For a test, you could tape over all the holes in the rear rims..
Just leave a little hole for the valve stem.

vortex generators

Vortex generators are of some interest as i have just finished making nine, will be posting a few pix a soon as they are mounted.
The information that i obtained was from citroen. Vortex Generators can be mounted on the air dam or belly pan and obviously on the rear of the vehicle that you may be driving Kamm or Sedan. Citroen gives the information re size and required angles to make them effective etc.

Some of the citroen models do have them as well as Mitsubishi, the trucking industry as well as Rv's use what they call airtabs, i would think more suited to the larger type vehicles. I personally prefer the citroen type due to the shark fin style. Adding the airtabs to the belly pan may well be worthwhile examining.

Belly pans? coroplast is well suited to the belly pan with the exception of the exhaust system but there is a workable solution to get full coverage of the exhaust inclusive of the muffler. As you well know RV's have shower liners made of fiberglass which are quite flexible and resolve the problem. Used Rv parts suppliers will be more than happy to get rid of the fiberglass panels.

For possibly the many that have used coroplast for fender skirts etc and want to beautify the corrogated plastic without the application of heat and have a proffessional appearance please bear with me and i will have the pix and instructions by next week.

the subject of Vortex generators may well be covered in eccomodder as well as the fiberglass solution re exhast systems in the event that they are not i will gladly share inclusive of another area that has remained untouched.

Simply expressing a few thoughts re ecomodding
