Beware of posting eco-mods on Reddit

I thought I would just start a thread here warning you all of how nasty people are on sites other than Ecomodder. I posted a lot of my eco-mods to reddit before deciding to join here and boy was that a mistake. I cannot even post on the volt subreddit without people immediately down voting me regardless of what I am saying all because of my eco-mod posts. Not everyone is as accepting of our way of life and our quest for better MPG. The biggest comment from people on my posts was how my modifications were "dangerous" and "illegal." Neither of those were obviously true. Everything I have done has followed in the way of those who have tested it before me with my own personal flair due to vehicle differences. Anybody have any similar stories from other sites?

Reddit is the middle school lunch table of the Internet.
Most non hybrid and electric vehicle sites are like that until you get into like big block chevy stuff. I posted about my tuning adventures with my 7.4L to get better highway cruise mpg by lean tuning carb with a wide band O2 meter and not giving up any power. They didn't hate it that much.

Reddit was okay as it got started in the run-up to the 2006 mid-term elections. Links to reading is what it was. Soon as the Dems won and did nothing, Reddit was “sold” and became the joke it’s been ever since.

On rare occasion I’ll have a link given me or a search will have a link to something on Reddit. In those 13-years no link has proven worthy of following.

Middle school is right. The dumb kids from divorced families.

That it now bans speech it finds theologically-incorrect means it’s as disgustingly unAmerican (and unChristian) as Facebook or Google or Twitter or the others. It’s function is destruction.

Besides, reducing fuel burn is more about NOT starting the car. No more unthinking casual use. That, and garaging it, are where the money really is. Reducing the number of vehicles owned over a lifetime is Economy.

But here, there, every other vehicle forum one runs into their all-important “feelz”. TV is their daddy, and daddy tells them they’re perfect as they are.

You should ask "techtornado" what his opinion is on truck tire retreads, animals crossing the road outside of areas designated by signage, and where the "potentially hot exhaust" hurt him.

You should also ask him why, if he's so certain that anything and everything falling off a car will cause an exhaust fire, Pennsylvania law specifically allows "the shedding or dropping of feathers or other matter from vehicles hauling live or slaughtered birds or animals" [PA Consolidated Statutes Title 75, Section 4903 (e) (2)].

Also, I LOLed at "death discs." These people have apparently never seen coroplast before.

If home made plastic wheel covers that weigh almost nothing are dangerous what the hell are those metal wheel covers used from the 1950s through now?
Remember these people likely live pay check to pay check if they have a job and probably think 14mpg is cool in a vehicle only moving a single person.

You won't find any love from any but specialized communities like EM. They'll crap all over you for anything that doesn't conform to their narrow view; doesn't matter what subject or how good of an idea it is. How dare you think outside the box?

Unless you enjoy a pointless argument, which might end up ugly, stick with places that have an audience who will appreciate your efforts. Nothing to gain from the other side.

Most people find actual conservation an affront to their lifestyle and are easily offended by anything that isn’t done exactly the same way they would do it.

I have 2 nearby picky neighbors in a tift because one fills the whole front yard (all 8’ of it) with flowers and pots and whatnot, which resulted in the town getting a complaint (assumably from the other neighbor) cause pots can’t be a certain distance from road or lot line.
Other neighbor has a complaint against them now because their “hedge plants” are too close as well and it goes back and forth.

Nothing like mental mudgets fighting a war and what’s worse is that the town loves and encourages neighbors to behave that way and enjoys sending the white van out to provide guidance on how they should alter their landscaping, if the town beautification person could spend their entire week doing this they would be in 7th heaven.

They gave up on me, I have only grass now and have been forced to apply roundup around my foundation and pull any vegetation near the foundation because of complaints that weeds were growing between my step and sidewalk, I removed my one bush and keep everything mowed down, since obviously it’s real ecological to apply roundup because some might see a strand of 6” + vegistation and that would be very disturbing.

What they said.

Narrow minded folks will always be angry when someone has a differing opinion, take a look at the US political climate for evidence.

If I ever had a band name, "Dangerous and Illegal" would be a great name. That, or "Well Disposed Savages" - ‎Meriwether Lewis.

Doesn't bother me what other people think so much. I'd like to think I have an ear open for reasonable criticism, and part of that means ignoring the uninformed and malicious comments.
