My 1970-something or other Musashi commuter bike. Previous owner picked it up in Oahu when he was in the military and rode the lining daylights out of it in more countries than I will ever be able to visit, put it up for $25.00 and I snatched it with both hands. Repairs consisted of:

-New tires and tubes
-Fresh injection of Lithium grease into sealed bearings via needle and syringe
-Thin overspray of Rust inhibitor over the patina-the rust spots perfectly match the original paint now.
-Added lights I had lying around, though I don't use at night.

The Musashi is as bare-bones as it gets-single speed, Rim brake on the front wheel and band brake on the rear, lugged and brazed old-school frame. This light (27 lbs) slim creature makes the average Beach Cruiser feel like a Limo with a clogged intake! My out-of-shape, 235lbs 52-year-old self can do any easy 14 MPH on level roads, corner like a goat and stop on a dime.

Rode only a few miles a week at first, but with this Mandatory Stay at Home order from my employer in place, i'm making it my Errands and Fun ride, with my Chevy S-10 now being my Heavy Cargo, Long Distance ride I only need maybe twice a week.

I wouldn't trade this humble creature for any carbon-fiber high-performance bike made-although if someone offers a Velomobile in trade I might reconsider....

I am using a 68L plastic tub and a coroplast fairing attached to the frame. Coast down tests indicate no increase in drag over naked a bike. This is a Roadmaster 18 spd with 700C x 38 tires and aluminum racks. The bar end grips are mounted 5 in. from the stem and I use mirror.

ID:	29215Not an ideal commuter, but it replaces some car trips. 1961 Sears Flighliner with 24"wheels. It was missing too many original parts, so I made a banana seat bike out of it.

Note the pic is clickable. Possibly too small for the 'click me' bar?

Banana seats rule. After I replaced the rear wheel I destroyed two banana seats.
The third one is holding up.

Do you ride any distance on a banana seat? Can you keep up with others and not wreck your knees or crotch?

I have not done over 5 miles on the nanner seat bike.
- A bike with 24" wheels would normally be too small for me to pedal efficiently and comfortably. The banana seat allows me to sit further back, for a more comfortable pedaling position.
- I Will need a more rigid sissy bar before I can take longer rides. I experience some seat wag now when climbing and accelarating.

It's an urban runabout. I don't run with a pack. It's hard on the sitting bones, but my knees are in much better shape than 10 years ago. With the banana seat I can get full extension of my legs, but mount/dismount (or waiting for lights) is tricky. I can stand on my tip-toes.

I tried a banana seat a few years ago and it was too hard. I use Zinn software to optimize my riding position and had a local upholstery shop redo my Sella Royal seat for $35 . Having a tail piece to push against can help.

My commuter for most of 2018~2019. It's a 2017 Rockhopper with street slicks.

Do you think it affected my economy? LOL!

I drove it 16 miles on the beetle to the train, 40 minute train ride, then up the stairs at King Street Station in Seattle.
