Yessir, I am! Right now I am just glad it is running quite well. Fires up excellently. Stable idle in great range. Timing is more stable and spot on than I recall ever. I added some more coolant (it went down again on the test drive).
I have a list of incomplete mods that this repair sidlined I would like to complete before El Mirage:
1) side skirt rebuild/paint
2) Wheel shirt rebuild on passenger side
3) Front wheel blanking complete
4) bumper cover charging port complete (mounted but not live yet)
I'll stop at that to get a few further repairs done:
1) Straighten radiator fins
2) Damned driver window crank (again!)
3) Sea foam the intake manifold & fuel system

Got the P0420 CEL again, which indicates trouble in the downstream ("secondary") O2 sensor or inefficient CAT converter operation (or both, I guess). Last time was April 27. But the car has been off the road for half the time since April 27. This is the same tank. Got it under very similar conditions today. I guess I will try the gasoline clean on my O2 sensors. I cleaned the CAT two years ago. It's the 1998 OEM part.

Back to modding today. But two operations updates since I replaced my head gasket:
(1) Seems replacing the cam seal and redoing the valve cover seal has finally put an end to the persistent oil/fluids leaks I have been chasing for years.
(2) Car running great. I took her out for a couple hundred miles of driving for work/family so far since I finished the head gasket. Other than the p0420, no problems. And that CEL has not come back in 80 miles.

Well, I got #1 and #2 done on the first list and tried to fix #2 on the second list, but I leave for El Mirage by or before dawn and this is all I got completely done, all pics, no description (in a hurry):

Looks great! What did you use to keep the wheel skirt away from touching the wheel? And what are those new brackets for the wheel skirts made from?

They look to be made from a small diameter pipe... PVC or maybe polyethylene(the second I have limitless access to)... I used a hand formed carpet bar along the bottom edge of my wheel skirts to keep the skirt off the tire

So the heavy black plastic I bought for the wheel skirts a few years ago comes un a big wide roll. I cut my wheel skirts to use the formed curve of the roll to hold the skirt off the tire. I screwed up on the passenger side so it sometimes touches the tire just a wee bit on a curve or bump. No biggie. No damage. One day I will remake that one. The driver side one is beautiful and has never touched the tire. No supports needed. The curve of the plastic is all....

That's about right. I litterally found this section of pipe in the street while biking a year or three ago. I salvage stuff and follow the "look alikes" design strategy. It's a book I used to read to my daughter at bedtime:

Those side skirts look great! I might want to emulate those...
In my experience, a P0420 rarely lies: you have cat problems. Were you here in Texas, you could have slid like me on doing the cat for like...three years

I am really hoping I can clear the CAT before smog this summer. I might do the acid wash again on the CAT, but I did the o2 sensors so I could eliminate a variable. If P0420 comes back, I can be quite certainthe CAT is the culprit and that the head gasket problem fouled it. We'll see soon. Smog test due by August.
