With the linseed oil, do you bake it on? How is it removed?

I simply apply it in a relatively thin coat with a clean rag and let it stay there. It will not last. I have used it on dulled areas of the car's paint, too, for water sealant and short term appearance improvement. I don't remove it.

heat shield and window film

Heat shield was finished yesterday. Here it is "polished" and reinstalled. 200 grit, then 1500 grit, then 2000 grit, then a 3000 grit polishing pad and rubbing compound.

Today was very busy for work (online teaching and meetings these days). But beginning tomorrow evening I will get to an old unfinished project of using this film I bought on the windshield for solar heat gain mitigation.

Gotta go back into "Zoomlandia" for another meeting...

Are you using a digital background for Zoom? Here is one that I shared elsewhere:

You are aware that boiled linseed oil with a drying additive is the basis for old school oil gloss paint?

Yes. But I learned of its use for wood and metal preservative from a great aunt in rural Pennsylvania. She used it mostly for wood, I think, but maybe for a gun or two and their old Farmall too. The can talks of preserving metals from rust as a use as well. I first experimented with a small patch on my trunklid where the clearcoat is scaling a little. It made the "blemish" blend into the black paint and become much less visible. Then I started using it more liberally on the worst fade spots (roof and top of the front bumper cover). I also use it to "polish" the black Plastidip coating on my 15" MINI 7 hole rims. To me, it is a cheaper, nontoxic detailing tool. And it was fun to tell my 90+ year old great aunt that I took up her practice with the stuff.

The almost constant rain this week kept me from almost all outdoor tasks, but I got a little cleaning done inside the car during the rain on Thursday and I did an oil change during a break in the rain Friday. Also, took this damaged rim off and brought it inside. I ran the car into two deep flash flood pools last Thanksgiving Day and they ripped up my wheel cover on this one. I will work on it inside when the rain returns tonight and tomorrow. Today, I am gonna experiment with my windshield tinting idea. Finally! While the skies are only "partly cloudy"...

Windshield tinting test/fail #1

As I thought, tinting the windshield glass well myself is going to be harder than I could fully appreciate before trying. I am into my second test effort on a rear side window. I get creases into the film soooo easily! I am gonna more aggressively follow this guy's methods when I return after the rain (which is blowing into town right now).

I have no pictures of my efforts, but my work ain't much to look at anyway. I will try to take some as I go forward.

Update on THREE projects

A three in one deal! Three updates in one post!

1) AERO WHEEL COVER repair

BEFORE:

AFTER:

2) DAUGHTER'S BMW E90 auto transmission flush: daughter & I got the damned fill plug out finally (multiple applications of PB Blaster over maybe 10 or 12 days and a good breaker bar did it). With more effort than should be necessary, the BMW let us replace and add fluid and now the transmission shifts out of 1st and 2cd almost like new. Hell yeah! No more bump/shudder shifts! And she learnin'!

3) WINDSHIELD TINT on my "Black & Green" eco rat: no progress since last time.

Are those MINI wheels? What material did you use to close the holes?
