That Lincoln lead sled will pull a smaller utility trailer just fine.
It will hugely increase the cargo capacity of your car.

It definitely has the torque, curb weight and brakes to do it! Just needs some E-load rated tires. Just driving it as is it gets that old luxury car butt wiggle going over bumps. Kinda like it's an old luxury car on soft sidewall tires.

It also needs a tougher transmission and a properly located rear axle. Despite the fact that I'm a big fan of the mechanicals of the Fox chassis, I am definitely not a big fan of the Fox 4-link.

No wonder Western Europe is going bankrupt. Keeping old Diesel beaters and running them on straight vegetable oils makes more sense than spending energy in the manufacturing of newer (and more complex) cars which are also more energy-intensive to fix when something goes wrong.

As it happens, I'm in need of a loaner and casting around among the shops I work with, it appears my choices are a Geo Metro and a diesel Dasher two-door. Either one will make it hard to go back to the Superbeetle.

The reason I returned to the thread:

Luggage Trailer

This is (or will be) a fiberglass reproduction of an Westphalia 'AnHanger' that fits the $200 Harbor Freight trailer.

It could open up to 90° and have a tent/inflatable pop out.

Oh wow - 46 pages of reading in this thread !
Can you put a small trailer on a G1 Insight ?
I saw a guy did something like this for his Insight on InsightCentral, but I think it was attached to the bumper itself and was not a trailer ( he used it for bikes )
The shop said the car is good to tow 200 lbs.
I have to transport some large paintings and was wondering if you could actually tow a small trailer with an Insight.
I would think even the smallest trailer out there would be close to, or more than 200 lbs.

No reason you could not make a functional trailer that weighed less than 100 pounds.

My northern tool trailer I rebuilt only weighed about 200lb with out the wood sides on it, it holds a ton, limited by the tires.

I sold a trailer a few months ago that I built last year, it weighed around 100lb before I put a heavy duty pressure treated 2x8 wooden deck on it. A thinner deck would have kept the weight pretty close to 120lb. I wasn't even trying to go for light, using 3 inch steel c channel and building it to hold 1,200lb.

Should be fairly easy to do leaf springs

I'm planning on doing leaf springs on the front of my Cherokee.

If I could get a Diesel Dasher I'd do it in a heartbeat.
