Caused quite a commotion at the gas station, took 4.5 gallons of RUG to fill up trencher before returning it to rental place. Trencher is 2,400 lbs, trailer is probably 500. The only ways it was obvious that anything was there was back there was 1) constant rattling of everything involving trailer and trencher, b) going over railroad track it gave a little whip to the back of the car. c) consumption was 450 Wh/ mile

Just maybe...

Some people would be better off buying a truck...

Sometimes I regret not having bought a Fiat Strada when they were still relatively cheap

That thing looks much better than that Subaru turd I mentioned before.

And that U-haul parking video...wow! The effort it took them to screw up that bad far exceeds the effort of simply backing straight out again.

The Pareto Principle (20% responsible for 80%) says that we should probably ban the bottom 10% of drivers for life.

The Uhaul driver should go to prison. That wasn't just dumb, it was criminal.

But it's technically much simpler. And even though the double-cab option was added targetting to leisure-oriented buyers, I have seen some being actually used for commercial purposes too.

Off-topic but it furthers the conversation:

I've been following this guy's series. This one is pretty good, but I miss any mention of the 1937 Hudson Terraplane Cab pickup. Three years after Ford of Australia's ute.

And the Volkswagen Rabbit pickup.

BTW here's a 1953 Hudson. Factory or no?

Doesn't look proportionate enough to be a factory model. On a sidenote, it even resembles somehow the Argentinian "Chatita Institec" based on a local compact which was named Justicialista before having its name changed due to political conotations.

In 1992 I was lucky enough to get a port call in Hobart Tasmania. This being the old, pre google and wide spread cell phone days, when we were boated over to the pier we were greeted with an "adopt a sailor" bulletin board. Now I wasn't really looking to get a free dinner with a nice family so they could try and marry me off to their daughter, but an invite did catch my eye. The Early Ford Owners of Tasmania car club was having their monthly meeting that night and invited anyone to come. So myself and about 8 of my car loving shipmates waited at the designated corner that afternoon and what shows up but a bunch of sweet utes, something I had never heard of besides the Ranchero and El Camino. But these were older and one was even a Plymouth, my favorite car maker of all time. (I know, early Ford club, *******ized Plymouth, it just shows utes fit in at any car living community).

Those guys were great, big steak dinner, all the beer we could down, and then the next day a few of them offered to pick us up early to cruise the whole island. So I rode shotgun in that Plymouth 1/2 the time and did the rest in a 63 Galaxy convertible. That car was driven by basically the Boyd or Foose of Tasmania. He took us to his hotrod shop and later I see his stuff all over Australian car magazines.

Between this and a fly fishing trip me and another guy got to go on with the Orlando Martin of Tasmania (no connection to the car club) the next day, made for my favorite Navy memories of my 11 year service.

The rest of Australia treated Tasmania like we inbthe US treat West Virginia, but I tell you Tasmanians are the best.
