Car has paid itself off! Woohoo!

Two big reasons for me to get into ecomodding and eco-driving:
Environmental Impact and Money

The money aspect has come full-circle. I bought the car for $500, spent about $150 in parts on it, and have been driving it for 10 months and 10,000 miles.
That's about 6,000 miles not driven in my Mustang (21 mpg) and about 4000 miles not driven in my wife's Intrigue (27 mpg).
After insurance and some small repairs here and there, as well as some paint and screws purchased for ecomodding projects, the car paid itself off in displaced Mustang use within the past month. Add in my wife's car not being used, and it was paid off 3 months ago.
Not to mention the convenience of having a spare car in the household, keeping the mustang clean and garaged, and having a 4 door station wagon is handy (preferable to the mustang) with an infant!

Buying an ecological car with high MPGs can be an economical choice too!

Very cool! I drive 2-3000 miles a month for business, and I'm considering doing something similar (buying another car that will end up paying for itself).

Congrats gascort! I must try do the math tonight in work to see how long, if ever, it takes to pay off my car by ecomodding and hypermiling.

This is great news, gives me something to look forward to as my car I'm using for this was $600 so I suspect if it doesn't die on me, it may also in some time pay for itself in gas savings!

This is inspirational for all of us, and makes me want to try even harder to save!

Thanks for the replies. I bought this car with 247k on it and told my wife it should last at least until it was paid off. It's still running strong, and I bet it's got a lot more in it! (economy and distance) - I'm pushing for a 500 mile tank (nearly unheard of for this car) early this summer, then a 600...
