Agreed. Humanity was gifted a nest egg of free energy to get us off the planet, and we've squandered it on [all the things].

Even at fertility 1.9 we are on track to top 10 Billion people due to 3-4 generations being alive at the same time. Rebuildables cannot replace the 17TW of primary energy that it takes to support this type of modern civilization for this many people. Everything needs to change.

What would getting off the planet accomplish? Attempting to send 200 people to die on Mars is a huge waste of talent and capital.
.
There is no Planet B.

There has got to be a Planet B. The problem is finding Planet B, and then figuring out how to get from point A to Planet B.

I think robotics (and certainly space travel) needs to get much better before we start getting serious about sending probes to other solar systems.

Would be neat to start putting robots on some interesting moons of Saturn or Jupiter.

I'm with you on solving the problems closest to us first (Earth). That's the problem with the premise of Interstellar (the movie). They made it seem easier to figure out how gravity works and colonizing planets light years away than fixing the issues on Earth.

Probably because you can program computer modeling to literally show anything you want and that's what they did.
I don't think he made any such claim. I think this is FUD from bogus sources.

No one said anything about the ice loss slowing, reversing, this is supposed to be the death spiral and they should be saying "I told you so".
Science is not a religion. Anthropogenic climate change is basic accepted science.

So, your whole statement is bogus.

Go on YouTube and search "al gore" and you can watch him for hours talk about how the polar ice caps are going to melt by 2010 and flood the world.

So the computer model source data is publicly available?
The antartic has not been gaining ice?
Which of the computer models have been correct?
If all these computer models were correct then why did the ipcc say that all the models were failing because they were over estimating the effect CO2 was having by double what it was.
Where is the death spiral we were promised?
Why isn't the plant warming faster?
That sure is a lot of blind faith for something that isn't a religion.

Computers are mathematic. Mathematic it's only so good as the data and the equations for simulate events.

We don't have all data and all equations to simulate the entire planet, since we don't have how to get it right. Sun light and sun effect on magnetic filed, oceans, atmosphere, and even vulcanic and magma flux after the crost.

Despite some alarming and apocaliptic sentences, I think Earth it's changing fast.

A bit off now. May I ask someone about the soldering schmemes in a typical solar panel?
Not all cell are soldered in paralel, otherwise the final output in volts would bemuch higher.
Some help, please.
