Rebuildables can power "A" human society. Just not this one. 17 TeraWatts and growing (for now).

I have accepted this.
I am re-adopting solid fuel technology. To the point of learning about boilers and steam engines. Wood and coal fired heating today, steam driven power generation later.

The satellite used to chart the ice.
Compare now to winter of 1980 and they are pretty much the same. Draw your own conclusions.
But very curiously no one is reporting this....
I guess it's really, really good news, or really bad news depending on who you are.

I found this presentation quite interesting :

But I believe he accidently changed 90% for 99% when he said airplane fattalities are much lower today compared to the 70's.
Anyway we can't use the optimistc idea to forget about keep things getting better. And we can't use pessimism to cross arms and quit.

I confess that I'm being optimistic about batteries, like John Goodenough's battery (glass sodium), and the polemic about it appears imposible. I ask myself now :
Why a man of his reputation and fame, creator of battery we all use today, would at 95 years old throw away he image and respect he conquest among scientific comunity, why would he made hinself ridiculous, realesing a complete hoax ???
And it's not just hin, it's a entire team of researchers from a very respectable universiy.
There must be at least some true about his battery.

All of the advancements he points to arethe result of cheap energy from fossil fuel lifting world GDP.
.
The big problem with the free market: There is no price to the future put on the actual non-renewable resources we are consuming. Only the cost of extraction. Also, many waste streams after use carry no price.

So, tell us what you really think about this one:

Any divested oil stocks are just bought back by some other investor at an even cheaper price than they already wanted to pay. Divestment of investments in oil companies does nothing to inhibit them. Divestment of the USE of oil is the only thing that can reduce consumption. And the world economy is hooked.

Like I said once in this forum (but not sure if somebody listened) :

I people had just followed Christ 2000 years ago, his ideas and without supernatural powers, just making good and praying, the technology would not be developed, and people today would suffer a lot with hunger, disease, pragues, poverty, bad food, low life expectation, high child mortality, short life expectancy...

I'm not saying capitalism it's great, but human nature needs competition to develop. But savage capitalism can also lead to problems. I believe in a controlled humanized capitalism, since all extremims are bad.

The free market only works for a strong middle class when there is a shortage of labor. Which there never will be again due to over-population and increasing automation. Going forward in the current system, the owners of production are holding all of the cards. We will need a whole new way.

Why do we keep coming back to this after it's been explained that the quote that led to this misconception is a quote of the claim that the Arctic sea ice *might* fully disappear during the summer taken completely out of context?

Where's the claim? Where are the papers predicting this?
