Global cooling!

I needed to prepare for a test yesterday, but felt that I should mow the lawns before it got too high for the electric mower. I awoke at 0230 and could not get back to sleep for hours. I kept hearing strong winds and I do not know what else. This is what happened to the lawn that I mowed yesterday:

It was 68°F yesterday.

I remember an old sci fi story where there was a giant blob of meat that could be sliced off as necessary. The caretaker called it Chicken Little or something and showed the main character that it could do a trick. He blew a whistle, Chicken Little raised up, revealing a hole in the floor, and the other man led the protagonist into a secret room where they planned and plotted a rebellion.

As I recall, the man had given out pamphlets to a select few saying "A man's life is in your hands!" and the second guy, who was in advertising, decided to promote the power and prestige you could obtain in their secret group.

I also remember a story where people rented stairs in staircases and slept on them at night. An entire extended family slept in a tiny apartment. The baby's crib was over the sink. They only flushed once a day. The part that I want to share is they had two pipes running into the house, saltwater and fresh. They used the saltwater as much as possible and then rinsed with fresh.

How much can be done with saltwater?

Looks like you got your self an inch or 2 of global warming.

I can get fresh water a lot easier than sea water.

Sounds like a rip-off of Dildano's lair in Barbarella.

All that I remember from Barbarella was a mercury-filled helmet. It was like a sci-fi movie created by people who had never watched a sci-fi movie.

Most people remember what came after the helmet.

Kids these days.

You're dissing Jean-Claude Forest? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbarella_(comics)

I try to be helpful. [shrug] Within the first minute of the video she kicks the helmet away. Opening credits. That was Brandon Tenold's very first review in 2011. You've got some catching up to do, so lay off the Shouty Kilmer:

Barbarella is interesting to compare with Valerian or John Carter of Mars, all based on comics that have been ripped off so much they now seem derivative.

Ontopic: What do you think about the idea that the Azores islands are the tippy top of Atlantis, submerged at the end of the Younger Dryas just when Plato said it happened?

Any reduction in availability of world primary energy right now would bring a big reduction in standard of living and lifespan.
The only Epstein I'd heard was from Dave Rubin's interview. It seemed mostly reasonable, and I'm partial to humanist arguments.

I just discovered his Human Flourishing podcast and listened to a couple episodes today. He's got a good thought process, but the way he delivers the message is a little dull.

Alex Epstein is intelligent and well spoken and makes some good points. He is intentionally extreme and still a bit clumsy with some of the facts and numbers but will mature. His view point has been woefully lacking in the conversation lately and the truth of it is shocking to the under informed just leave it in the ground crowd.
.
Embodied energy is the major part of everything around us and everything we need and do as a society. Fossil fuels provide 80% of the primary energy that we need to avoid a sharp crash. Wind and solar still only provide 2% and have almost zero storage on a world scale. Sticks and dung for cooking and heating over open flames in the house still provide several times more energy than wind and solar. Such a long way to go. And a short time to get there before liquid fuel becomes prohibitively expensive for building big things.
.
I hope when people see this chart, they understand the the increased population didn't start using more fossil energy. It's the other way around. Increased availability of energy after we discovered fossil fuels enabled the population to grow via greater food production and technical advances and medicine.
.
There are still some efficiency gains to be made, but energy/ economy (as a measure of human well being) and population, are still nearly 1:1:1.
.
If energy goes down, the others must go down. And the population is set to increase a further 30% before it can humanely start going down in 70 years.
.
