In my mothers family lung cancer took more victims than all other causes of death combined. My granddad quit smoking when in 2 years time his 3 uncles all died of lung cancer... and was one of the few to reach really old age.
Who needs science when the cause and result is that clear.

What makes smoking bad is that it causes cancer, and as a result, death.

What makes our high rate of burning fossil fuels bad is the pollution it creates. The changing climate is just one of the symptoms, and probably not the worst either.

Genetic also can increase even more the risk of lung cancer in smokers. Smoking increases 10 to 20 times the risk of lung cancer, but genetic also can have influence and affect even who never smoked.

If your mother side of family had so much cases, maybe there is a bad gene involved, and you should make medical exams every years or even in shorter intervals. Unless when deteted really very early, it's usualy a really lethal cancer, one of the worsts. But in early stages there is no simptons.

There is the risk of second hand smoking, and even third hand smoking (carpet, curtains, coach, clothes can hold pollutents and increase alergy risk) and air polution from cars too. But direct smoking took more lifes than all wars combined. It's the largest "killing industry" ever.
If we consider it increase risk of creates babies born with lower weight, it can also reduce IQ, I presume.

So it's the most disgracefull product ever created in mass use.

Health plans should cost more to smokers, to young smokers to be more clear. We see teens that start smoking even after education in schools where teachers told all the bad effects of smoking and all the riks.
If someone choose to take such stupid addiction, in a generation who grow without TV advertises for such things, I conclude they are stupid and should pay more for health services plans.

And one of the the least effectives too.

Fix almost nothing, cures almost nothing, just cut, slice, extirpate and drug people.
Even diagnoses use to be a crap, with many mistakes all the time.

I use to say I would like to fill a Titanic with dermatologists, and sink it in the coldest waters of Atlantic ocean, and with no life boats.

There are many problems with our healthcare system, especially in the US, but its scientific basis is not one of them. The human body is an incredibly complex organism, and the fact that we're able to do what we can never ceases to amaze me.

For instance, less than a year ago I had a doctor shoot a laser into my eyes, and now I can see perfectly.

For another, my mother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2005, a particularly aggressive cancer with a 100% mortality rate. She's still alive today because a new lenalidomide treatment was approved the same year. When that stopped working earlier this year, she underwent an experimental FDA trial that removed her T-cells, wiped out her immune system with chemotherapy, then reinjected modified T-cells. Her cancer cell blood count went from over 50% to less than 1% in three weeks.

Examples like that are only possible as the result of well-established scientific inquiry and processes. If you feel like your particular malady isn't being addressed effectively, do something about it rather than complain that the whole field is quackery. Because it isn't.

Direct Air Capture of 1/3 of the carbon uses up 1/4 of the energy that made the CO2.
.
"On this basis, the paper says that capturing 12 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent (GtCO2e) per year (around a third of annual global emissions) would require 156 exajoules (EJ) of energy. This is more than a quarter of total annual global energy demand for all uses, of around 550EJ."

At what concentration does the IR absorbing green house gas effect of CO2 max out?

The believers don't care about carbon dioxide capture.
In 2012 anti pipe liners stopped the first commercially viable CO2 capture. The scheme was to take CO2 seperated from Colorado natural gas production, pipe it to through new Mexico to old oil wells in west texas.
The idea was to pump CO2 into depleted oil wells to drive off oil.
It would have taken at least 20lb of CO2 to drive off each gallon of oil at first, then more and more CO2 would be needed over time to get each gallon of oil.

But no the so called environmentalists got their way and the CO2 is just off gassed into the atmosphere.
This could have kicked off large scale CO2 capture programs.

While I was catching up on everyone arguing with Oil Pan, a lady came to visit Mom, and it seems like she was excited about a video she saw on Facebook[*]. Some lady found out that her son with autism lacked a hormone called Secretin, they injected him with it, his symptoms reduced more and more, until he was "Normal." The full story is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Sokolski (except Wikipedia says improvements only lasted about six weeks and additional doses did not do anything)
I knew everyone was arguing, but I didn't realize we're taking sides. oil pan 4 is outnumbered? I'll side with him.

[*] There's your problem. Facespook.

Autism represents the forward evolution of the human race. 'Normie' parents see it as a problem to be medicated. Depriving us all and irritating the autists.

Also, they called them 'coffin nails' in the 1950s. Nobody took the hint.

Be careful about use the word autism, since there are many kinds and intensities of autism, from people that look closed to the world to people that are just not easily sociable to make friends or go to parties.

Indeed some great minds have some degree of autism. Maybe autism in lower degrees can increase IQ, since someone would not "go with the fleed" of stupidity fashions or stupidity bad influences, ormaybe the autism concentrates the concentration to more specific things.

I'm against over label of autism and against just say all autism have no problems. It's someting to be analzed case by case.
