The Carrington Event of 2012

On July 23,2012,a Carrington Event-class CME struck Earth's orbit. It might have been stronger than the Carrington Event of 1859 itself.Earth wasn't there at the time.Had it been, the damages would be estimated at $2-trillion.
NASA has a Space Weather Workshop every year at NOAA,Boulder,Colorado, for mutual head-scratching and wrecking the backs of envelopes with ball-point pens.

If they are anything like my company workshops, it's catchphrases related to company values the first half of the day, followed by golfing the second half. No envelopes are harmed in our workshops.

I was mostly speaking in reference to the Exon graph, which contained no timeline at all, yet it's assumed the x-axis represented time.

Your graph confused me since it shows everything in decline prior to 2030 (though it doesn't show how much prior). We're a decade out with little/no decline yet.

I thought population predictions generally has us peaking in 100 years? I've assumed it will happen towards the end of my lifetime, or about 2065. I'm guessing VR porn, decreasing religious fundamentalism, and general hassle of raising children will be the driving force behind a dwindling population, along with the already known factors such as women entering the workforce, and access to contraception.

Hash-tag sexstrike will be the death of us all! (not)

The Charlemagne Event was 10x the Carrington Event.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-body_radiation
Quote:
A black body at room temperature appears black, as most of the energy it radiates is infra-red and cannot be perceived by the human eye. Because the human eye cannot perceive light waves at lower frequencies, a black body, viewed in the dark at the lowest just faintly visible temperature, subjectively appears grey, even though its objective physical spectrum peak is in the infrared range.[5] When it becomes a little hotter, it appears dull red. As its temperature increases further it becomes yellow, white, and ultimately blue-white.

Although planets and stars are neither in thermal equilibrium with their surroundings nor perfect black bodies, black-body radiation is used as a first approximation for the energy they emit.[6] Black holes are near-perfect black bodies, in the sense that they absorb all the radiation that falls on them. It has been proposed that they emit black-body radiation (called Hawking radiation), with a temperature that depends on the mass of the black hole.[7]
The conjecture is that the electromagnetic radiation is ultraviolet rather than infrared. The test would be a pinhole mask that only exposes the interior of a sunspot.

Bill McKibben and Elizabeth Kolbert on the climate crisis we are in: Bill McKibben and Elizabeth Kolbert: Is It Too Late to Save the World?

Quote:
After years of languishing far down the list of voters’ priorities, climate change has moved to the top of many voters’ concerns, according to a new CNN poll. Now Presidential candidates are competing to establish themselves as leaders on the issue, and children are making headlines for striking from school over the issue.

Bill McKibben, whose book “The End of Nature” brought the idea of global warming to public consciousness thirty years ago, tells David Remnick that the accumulation of weather catastrophes—droughts, wildfires, floods—may have finally made an impact. “You watch as a California city literally called Paradise literally turns into hell inside half an hour,” McKibben reflects. “Once people have seen pictures like that, it’s no wonder we begin to see a real uptick in the response.”

McKibben joined the New Yorker writer Elizabeth Kolbert in a conversation about the U.N.’s new report on biodiversity. It finds that a million species could become extinct within a few decades and that human life itself may be imperiled. Although the political tide could be turning, both worry that it is too late. “The problem with climate change is that it’s a timed test,” McKibben notes. “If you don’t solve it fast, then you don’t solve it. No one’s got a plan for refreezing the Arctic once it’s melted. . . . We’re not playing for stopping climate change. We’re playing—maybe—for being able to slow it down to the point where it doesn’t make civilizations impossible.

Our society has been on the verge of peaking since the 1960s according to esperts.
When I was a kit the peak was supposed to be in the 1990s and be in bad decline now.

The introduction of fossil fueled, mechanised factory farming with artificial fertilizer and high tech cross bread crops in the 60's improved crop yields 300-700% which eliminated the impending starvation crisis.
.
The LTG forecasts in 1972 never said anything bad about the 90's. It always placed the timeframe of peak civilization at 2030 right in the original book. We shall see if we can delay the inevitable by another 20 years by printing (eventually worthless) money and unleashing super advanced oil and gas recovery techniques. And then collapse.

So I should be a bullish investor until about 2030, and then short civilization.

Bullish for 2 more years at the most and we are headed for another big correction after public sentiment in the USA finally begins to shift away from complete short sighted selfishness. Then take all currency and equity to invest in pro-social intentional communities in hopes of building enough social support and surplus to share in the new economy that we avoid being taken over by Mad Max in 2040.

Wasn't Mad Max about intentional communities?
