Deflect, deflect, deflect! Don't worry, we still have plenty on our plate with the plastic pollution and rogue DNA experimenters.

Those dinosaurs should have invested more in a space migration program. Let us learn from their mistake.

Yes, the coming genetic engineering age is going to be so disruptive that there'll be little time in the 24hr news cycle to fit in blurbs about impending death by climate.

...and the dinosaurs had it good. Going unexpectedly is the easiest way to go. No depression and despair and existential turmoil. Eat a few good meals and leave behind a Trojan Horse for humans to enjoy until their end.

It's an age of meta-materials. Here's a story from Phys.org about quasi-2-dimensional polymer materials:
phys.org: Bottom-up synthesis of crystalline 2-D polymers
Quote:
The research team led by Prof. Dr. Xinliang Feng (TU Dresden) innovatively developed a novel synthetic route: using surfactant monolayer as a soft template to guide the supramolecular organization of monomers and the subsequent 2-D polymerization at an air-water interface. This synthetic methodology is now termed as surfactant-monolayer-assistant interfacial synthesis (SMAIS). By using the SMAIS method, Dr. Tao Zhang synthesized crystalline quasi-2-D polyaniline films with lateral size ~50 cm2 and tunable thickness (2.6—30 nm).

The superior charge transport properties and chemiresistivity toward ammonia and volatile organic compounds render the quasi-2-D polyaniline films as promising electroactive materials for thin-film organic electronics.
The future is so bright we'll need mirror-shades.

Goldman Sachs released a 34-page analysis of the impact of climate change. And the results are terrifying.

Massachusetts has had eleven people get Eastern Equine Encephalitis - a disease that causes your brain to swell.

Four of those people have died.

We are spraying to try an kill the mosquitoes, and yet people are still being infected. The only thing that will completely stop the mosquitoes - is a killing frost.

100 years ago, we harvested ice TWICE a winter, and sold it all around the world. This was a very large business. Ice had to be 18-24 inches thick in order to last, when packed into sawdust all through the summer. It was harvested from December to February, at least.

A few years ago, the first killing frost we had here - was December 4th. We have had winters when the ice did not even freeze across the lakes and ponds - let alone freeze enough to be walked on, let alone freeze 18-24" thick - let alone TWICE in a winter.

Gonna say the same thing to oil pan as I did to litesong. If name calling causes this thread to be locked I'm going to ask that the users responsible be banned.
