Cowmeat learns to drive the Volt

Well, a month down the road and Ruby is still sitting at the dealership torn apart.
I don't get the feeling they came up with anything, maybe GM will just replace the transmission if one ever becomes available. Hopefully so since they've probably lost some of the ones off Ruby since it's been sitting there so long

I had to re-sign for the loaner truck since I'd had it over 30 days, and there's going to be a big backlog of parts all over the country if they ever come off the strike so I could have the loaner for another month while they sort it out

Found a 16 Volt locally at what seemed to be a good deal. Eventually found out it was a CA lemon car. What's the Lemon Law rules in FL, they they seem to very by state?

If the vehicle has been back to the service agent for repair of the same recurring problem at least three times

If the vehicle is in and out of the authorized repair shop for repair of one or more different problems for 15 or more cumulative days,

The consumer may be eligible for a purchase price refund or a replacement vehicle if the vehicle is out of service for repair of one or more non-conformities for a cumulative total of 30 or more days.

You may want to start pursing it now.

You hear about people that keep bringing back their car for the same problem and the dealership gives them the runaround. Then the warranty expires--sometimes while at the dealership.

Wouldn't the lemon law apply?

Of course, if they refuse to accept the problem, how would you make them buy back your car?

The final diagnosis after five weeks is that apparently the transmission input housing or bearing or some such item was scored . . . anyway they convinced GM to put a brand new transmission in it. Hopefully one that's a lot stronger than the original since I baby the thing around and the tranny only lasted a year

Of course with the strike still going I assume it'll be a while before they can get their hands on one, but at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel!

Still have my 1988 Ford Festiva.
Back in 2011-13, I was trying to get a good price on a Chevy Eco Cruise. Kept seeing the Volts on the Chevy lots & saying those are OK cars to look at. They were way outta my price range. Eventually, the Chevy dealer wouldn't sell an Eco Cruise to me for my price. I told him what I could buy Hyundai Elantras for, altho they got less MPG. He told me to buy it. So I did. Best advice a car dealer ever gave me. We now have 2 Elantras with 145,000 total miles & nothing has ever gone wrong with either one. Both the automatic & manual transmissions have often got over 40MPG..... the auto, once, while ascending a 3000+ foot mountain pass & the manual, twice, while passing over a 4000+ foot mountain pass, in both directions.
Sorry for all your troubles...... but I believe I also have avoided the same or similar problems you have, if I had bought Chevy.

Yeah, it's had its share of issues considering it's only a year old!
It's surprising to me - I could see if it was a G1 or the first production year of the G2, but they've had a lot of time to time work out the bugs on the Volt. I guess the parts must be sub-par, and that's going to cost them a lot of money over the next few years if they end up replacing a bunch of the Volt trannys

No worries, I have a long warranty on it and they can just keep replacing stuff as long as they give me a loaner

Not yet, as of two weeks ago they were still locating a new transmission since parts are still back-logged from the GM strike

I was on vacation in north Florida fishing this week without much cell reception so hopefully I'll get some good news tomorrow!
