What are the stats on your SC? I can't seem to get my twin cam above 40mpg this winter but was dancing in the low 40s in the summer...but I'm running a SOHC trans with taller highway 4th and 5th gears. What are your driving techniques as well?

The SC is bone stock so far, except tire pressur at ~40psi. My commute is 95% freeway and I usually hold it at 55 on the way home and 65 on the way to work (always running late, lol). Realistically my mileage "in service" is closer to 38mpg. The 41 tank included 200mi of freeway with a fair bit of that spent following a big-rig at a safe distance (2-4 seconds). The main trick I employ is EOC whenever decelerating or going down a hill where the car can at least think about staying with traffic. Generally, if I can get away with engine off for 10sec or more, the engine goes off. I always restart by very-briefly engaging the clutch to start the motor, then rev-matching with throttle before reengaging the clutch for good.

Sometimes I feel like I burn more oil than gas. Previous owner lied his a** off about the oil consumption.

Thanks for the info. Welcome to the wonderful world of Saturns! I have found that synthetics seem to burn off a little less quick than conventional oils. If you haven't already, change to the fixed orifice PCV valve to help oil consumption a little. Also check on your engine coolant temp sensor to make sure it is not the plastic one, but the updated brass one. Temp should read at about the 1/2 mark on your gauge in case you didn't already know... Many Saturns seem to ride at 1/4 due to blown open T-stats.

Sounds like he needs a t-stat and maybe a new sending unit for the gauge. I stated doing p&g when i first tried hyper miling but my car has since began starting harder so i've kind of given up for the time being. Its good to see what a twin cam can do with EOC methods
