Y'all are crazy. Slow down and smell the roses, as they say. Let the idiots be idiots on the road but don't argue like one. Slower speeds are always safer; the only time they're not is when other drivers have road rage - and then its their own fault for not being able to maturely control their emotions like an adult. Don't let traffic back up for miles behind you - that's just courtesy, but to imply that we must speed because everyone else is simply is asking for an accident. Don't join the morons. This is literally simple; makes no sense why people are arguing about it. If you want to go fast, buy a truck and race down the road at 80 mph and 3 mpg until you hit somebody and cause an accident.

Paying attention helps the most..

The best thing to do is know your ride and what it can and can't do.. I avoided getting Tboned by a dip**** doing a burn out while making a left turn (duo left turn) He lost control I nearly Tboned me on the driver side left corner (he would have been a Fault)

Floored it to RED line (has traction control).. I was in the right left turn lane he was

.. barely cleared from getting hit by 2-3 inches

This. I can't begin to describe the number of near-accident experiences I've had due to other people not paying attention (texting while driving, etc.) and not knowing their car.

I do not know how many highways have traffic lights at highway speeds, but there are some leaving the Phoenix area for where I live. The speed limit is 65, traffic is 75 - 80, but I know that I will need to stop, so I take my foot off of the accelerator, but someone rear-ends me in a 6,000-pound ego hauler because I am too stupid to keep up with traffic. Oh well! Nobody misses stupid people!

Except for celebrities. History was made by stupid people!

Literally. Out in Ohio where the speed limit was 60 or 65 on the "highway" with traffic lights and turns, people were going 70-75 while I just went 50-55....traffic was light so I wasn't bothering anyone. People would fly by only to get caught at the light, then I would catch right back up to them not having to brake at all.

So many people race to red lights and then slam on their brakes. That's just not safe driving regardless. Regardless of traffic, I will never race to a red light and slam on my brakes, period.

My favorite is when I coast by vehicles at a red light and make the next light, but they don't!

Not only unsafe, but also needlessly hard on the vehicle. I rag on my wife for this behavior, but I think I finally convinced her when our last van needed new brake pads at 70k miles (and it looked like they had been replaced once before already, we didn't buy it new), while meanwhile my F150 has 199k on the factory brakes, which are still fine.

Traffic lights on roads with highway speeds should be outlawed. I pull a travel trailer with an F250 pickup, and the most terrifying part of the trip is on such highways. I'm a nervous wreck when doing highway speeds knowing a red light can pop up anytime at close range, and me not having the ability to stop as quickly as might be needed.

So true. My Insight has 265k on what I think are the second set of brake pads since new. Still have about half life on them. Shouldn't have to worry about it for a long time down the road, since I don't use the brakes all that much. Heck, back when I had the hybrid system installed, I literally didn't use the brakes at all above 10 mph since I had the regen switch for max regen.

Do people ever get really pissed off at your Eco driving??
I'm pretty sure they don't even realize I'm doing it!

When they pass me and see my graying hair they must just assume I drive slow because I'm on my way to Denny's or Walgreens

In reality I could dust most of them if I chose to . . . I learned that on the way home from the dealership and the first couple of days testing it out. Just knowing I could if I wanted to is good enough for me most of the time (but not always)
