Do people ever get really pissed off at your Eco driving??

They do, and tear around me to pass, and then tear around me to pass again when I glide past them at the next light, and again, and I don't think they realize they're passing the same car over and over, burning extra fuel, brake pads and blood pressure to achieve the same average speed as myself, motoring along at what appears to be an insufferable old fart puttering velocity but nevertheless maintaining my place in the stack of traffic.

How dangerous can what I'm doing be, when I'm getting the same average performance but doing it by being less variable? Consistency and predictability is what you WANT from other drivers.

I used to joke that people rush to red lights so they have a few seconds to text and check InstaFaceChat (at least the ones not doing it while actually driving).

I don't think it's a joke anymore.

Some people are probably disappointed if the light turns green while they're slowing down.

it makes a lot of sense, i actually have seen this disturbing trend as well and its the same reason texting at reds

people are so busy texting at red lights, that when the red changes to green, the only and i mean only reason that they realize it is green light is from their peripheral vision of the cars besides them actually starting to move.

in other words the lane next to them is going and that is thier signal to go as well.

if your looking down texting, your peripheral vision can pick up the vehicle next to you starting to move , you can't see the green light looking down.

Yesterday I did some real P&G for the first time in years. The strong headwind I had to fight was now a strong tailwind on the way home so I wanted to balance the equation a bit. On a glide a pickup passed me, just as I wanted. I couldn't really tell if he was speeding or not because... glide. Minutes later he got pulled over, I presume for speeding. So I'm IMAGINING at that point he was pissed off at my eco-driving!

The part I don't know is, was he speeding outside of the passing maneuver? If he wasn't I feel bad for him, as it is the law in MN that one can speed in order to safely complete a passing maneuver. If he was speeding anyway, then tough noogie. Besides, at that point his passing maneuver could have been completed safely without accelerating as there was no oncoming traffic.

P.S. I pulled over to the shoulder on glides when there was oncoming traffic and traffic approaching from behind.

P.P.S. 25 years ago, same road, I was the one in a pickup doing about 80... I passed a car like he was standing still and he took that as a challenge, upping the ante and passing me up. I spotted an oncoming vehicle way off in the distance and backed off... turned out it was the lawr and the guy in the car got pulled over for speeding. Guess I managed to piss people off eco-driving or un-eco-driving.

thats pretty funny ! and i do kinda feel bad, i definitely feel if the person is impatient the P&G driving will irritate them for at least 3 blocks from witnessing it, its hard to loose that anger quickly.

its so sad even jsut gliding to red lights people get on you, its insane, your so focused on moving (or passing me) u cant even see the red ahead.

I was stopped at a red light in rush hour traffic a while back and the young girl sitting to my right was texting the entire time. I moved up a couple of feet to see if she'd even notice anything going on around her, and she must have had good peripheral vision, cause she shot off into the intersection and then had to slam on the brakes before getting t-boned by the cross traffic when she realized the light was still red. She spent the rest of the time at the light scowling at me while I laughed.

I felt bad later when I realized my experiment could have gotten her or somebody else killed, so I haven't done it again even though almost every red light ends up with that same opportunity. And do I really think she learned anything from the close call? Negatory, I assume she was doing it again at the next light!

How about "a few seconds to text undisturbed." It's not like they wait for a stop to text.

that's too legit ! woah, so yea too bad the prank / test is potentially so risky and unsafe ... it would be interesting to do that more often .
