When I reserved I figured 10k was a likely number. I've never thought 6.8k was doable even with an open wheel, convertible model. And I never thought car crash test numbers were obtainable. In a light vehicle the dummy will always perish unless he is molded in foam. Just saying if its too good to be true...
I figure my dollar is my vote. Whatever the price I'll have mine painted yellow for good visibility.

I like the concept of the vehicle its self.
It seemed promising at first, and the concept is interesting, but if there was a real interest in bring it to the market they would have already released it into the market, even if they had to resort to a Volkswagen-based transaxle and a Harley-Davidson engine...

A friend in Shreveport (where they plan on building the cars) said it looks like this is a dead deal. Just a few years ago, there was lots of talk about making a similar "smart car" or "city car" 100 miles east in Monroe, LA. Lots of investor money, lots of federal and state money, lots of press releases until one day... nothing. They even spent months reworking a former GM-Guide plant. I was hoping the Elio would be different but wasn't holding my breath.

I imagine that some people are working very hard to make this happen, I am just not sure they are the more relevant people.

If it does not, if Elio goes bankrupt, could the patents or whatever be bought cheaply, or would that even be worthwhile?

What patents?
This vehicle was all about the different application of EXISTING technology and that may be an Achilles heel - if it worked the Chinese would do their version in a heartbeat

I saw a very similar 3-wheel enclosed 2-seat vehicle on Facebook yesterday; I can just hear the minds whirling at Alibaba
