Don't worry too much, volt batteries are cheaper on a wthr basis and relatively easy to source.

They should also be more durable, only trouble is heating/cooling and the fact they are a huge pain to dissassemble

That was pretty quick! But it got me thinking - the Leaf battery module is a lot higher energy density than the CALB units. What I could physically fit is 35kWh vs 56kWh.

Yeah, the higher nominal cell voltage really kicks up the energy density.

Got one, not two

I ordered 2 of them on Tuesday, but it was one per customer. The web store allowed it so I gave it a try!

The web store also appears to allow the sale of stock they don't have - the blog says that they oversold. Maybe Jack won't have enough packs for his own build?

Take a look at the March 1 EVTV weekly video. They pull off the covers and check out the different components. Not in detail, but you can see the peltier modules, BMS harness and of course the batteries.

Plans .. so many plans ...

The first pack was to be for converting my 92 Mazda MX6 this year.

The cells need to be heated (it gets down to 40 below zero in Saskatoon, Canada) so some of the heating system from the pack will need to stay. I should be able to run it from AC power when stationary and use minimal power on maintaining the heat while moving?

The second pack was to be split into 5 packs of 72V for prototype testing Electric Motor modules for WIKISPEED.

Now I guess I'll have to ration. The Netgain Industrial controller I'm using for the MX6 is flexible. Supply it 12V externally and you can use battery voltages from 24V to 400V. The warp9 only wants 144V, but the controller will let you supply higher voltages and step down to a programmed motor voltage. Maybe I can get away with 2 x 120V packs for the MX6 during the summer and use the rest for 2 x 60V test packs on the WIKISPEED motor modules.

When I get some details worked out, I will post. Right now, I'm working on the scale model (1:2) WIKISPEED, then Weston's (grandson) monster truck version of the WIKISPEED car, then the MX6.

All these plans, and I have only a failed project (SalvageS10) behind me so far ... and no electric conversion sitting in the driveway yet.

If anyone knows any good group buys or is planning a big purchase in the future, i'd be interested in getting 7.5-10kwh's.

Interesting stuff in that EVTV vid (not just the packs).

They are going to have some charging challenges with those higher voltages.

If you watch ebay you too can find battery deals. Still you got to almost design the vehicle around the pack vs the pack around the vehicle.
