That's a beautiful Beetle! It seems that there are a lot of VW's in your country that cannot be seen in Europe!

Of course it is. Well, usually a stock Beetle is already beautiful, but that one really caught my attention.

The same way some of the cool Euro stuff is unavailable here, mostly due to cost. Volkswagen had some unique models in Brazil, but they used to be a makeshift approach to a tightly-regulated car market in older times, and now the budget aspect is the reason why some local Volkswagens are substantially different from the European ones.

I guess I have already mentioned AutoLatina and its badge-engineering approaches a few times. So, even if the Versailles was badged as a Ford, underneath it's the very same Volkswagen Santana.

Rust in peace:

Just A Car Guy: it wasn't long ago when this was a common site. VW Bugs were cheap to buy, simple to find, etc... and then, the collectors went crazy and snapped them up

There's a guy on facebook selling 40 aircooled engines / trannys for $3000. He credits the sale due to a death in his family.

In the '80s in Brazil it was not so unusual for farmers to buy a new vehicle and keep it hidden in a barn until they would supposedly be able to sell them for a premium, due to high inflation rates. Some eventually kept them unregistered and stored after finding out such deal became unprofitable, so once in a while similar barn-find vehicles appear for sale. Engines and NOS replacement parts on the other hand are not so common to appear in those barn-finds here.
