in fact.......
[QUOTE=Saskwatchian;511213]If you read the thread you will see that this project was picked for the Firebird, not the Firebird picked for the project. And it was hardly a "perfectly good muscle car" that makes a difference.

Cry and scream all you want, even call this thing a monstrosity, but recognize that this project is giving a classic Firebird a new and interesting lease on life. If it weren't being mated with a Prius, it probably would have just languished in the garage and possibly been headed for the scrapper.[/

I posted it twice!!!!!!

I am fine with anyone who says this project is a bad idea, as long as they themselves bought one of the many thousands of Firebird wrecks rotting away and carefully restored them to perfect working order.
Please share photo's of that project too.

Slamming the guy that revives his dead Firebird by putting it on a Prius chassis without doing it 'right' yourself is a bad idea.

We expect the Firebrid to be a better car than the original ever was, for a variety of reasons; all explained in this thread.

You could say it would no longer be a Firebird but a Prius.
Well, one heck of a great looking Prius then.

OK, guys, time to let it pass. Haters' gonna hate. I have had my share of muscle car projects in the past, and probably will again. This is different. There isn't enough money in the world to make me sell the Firebrid project. I'm having way too much FUN with it. Isn't that what it is all about anyway.

Let's move on to the good weather that is supposed to be in Ohio this coming weekend!

I actually understand why such project drives some people crazy and sparks a lot of controversy, as it is somewhat challenging traditions. FWD in a Firebird? Jap powertrain in an American muscle car? It's impossible to not get shocked when we see it at first.

Anyway, Bill, have you never even lurked about attempting to move the powertrain to the rear in order to keep it RWD?

Wild Bill! Im going to tell you the same thing I told my brother when he was building his car. Its YOUR money, Its YOUR car, Its YOUR project. Are you having fun? Screw everyone else. When they want to pay for your car/ parts/ garage space and time THEN they can *****. Remember 95% of the haters are arm chair morons anyways. Not doers. Give em hell and keep on truckin. If they don't like it NO ONE is telling them to watch, change the dam channel.

Thanks for all the support folks. It is appreciated. Making major modifications just so the rear wheels would do a burn-out instead of the front ones just doesn't make sense to me. Here is why.

The handling of a modern Prius is much, much better than the handling of the original Firebird suspension. Northeast of Baltimore there is a stretch of road known locally as the "Seven Sisters." (Harford Rd approaching Gunpowder Falls.) I drove the Firebird through there many times, tires howling, body leaning and front end plowing its way through the curves. On my last visit there, I drove my Gen-III Prius on the same road and it just zipped around the curves like a sports car. (driving it faster than I would have done with the Firebird.) At the time the car had the stock suspension, my wife was in the right seat, AND I had two bicycles mounted to a roof rack on the roof. Even with all of that the handling was still precise and nearly flat in the turns. Why on Earth would I be unhappy with that set-up under the Firebrid?!?

I do apologize if i came across as an a$$. But i hate seeing things like this. It's just my personal opinion, as I am a huge classic car guy. I didn't mean to sound like a total douche. I am in fact restoring a classic car, so all the people saying "don't comment unless you're saving a car blah blah" Well, I am. so.... yeah. a 1972 gran torino. Definitely not going hybrid. It's going big block gas guzzling power.

again, sorry if i came across as a dick. Just don't like seeing things like this, just the way I am. I can totally respect the work being put into this, as it's a huge project. I just wish it was something other than a classic firebird.
