Valved hydrogen bubbles. See graysgarage.

a real-world example that approaches the bionic shape is the 1947 Volkhart-Saggitta:

It's Cd was verified in a modern wind tunnel. It has 25hp and a 90mph top speed. One or two examples remain.

IIRC that's a fan copy of the original 1940 comic book Batmobile.

The Volkhart-Sagitta came out of Zepplin reasearch done in the 1930s. At a time and place where/when they were squeezing fuel out of coal and wood.

https://freenorthcarolina.blogspot.c...urier-car.html

Quote:
Based on the KdF-Wagen Typ 60 , aka VW Beetle, it was designed by K.C. Volkhart as a fast courier car for Luftwaffe (German Air Force).Body, designed by Baron Reinhard von Koenig-Fachsenfeld, was built by Helmut Fuchs Niederwenningern/Ruhr. Thanks to its low drag coefficient (0.17 only) the streamline body allowed for speeds up to 150 km/h. The engine, mounted at the rear, was the standard VW 1.1-liter boxer, 24.5 hp.
Koenig-Fachsenfeld's name is scattered all through Ecomodder. IMHO the V2 is the ultimate bubble-top coupe*. The Kofferfisch is more of a van.

*It's competition in that category would be the Mercede-Benz 300SL and the 1964 1/2 Mustang.

When I first saw I tried to find it in the BYW batman series, but couldn't, since old Batman have a ordinary car.

The comics also have not this version but this :

The Year of the Bat, Part 3 – The Batmobile | The Golden Age of Comic Books

Anyway it's a very nive fan made version, that should had being on some old movie.

Maybe not the first, but based on an early comic illustration. It's likely in here somewhere: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=palemoon&q=history+of+the+batmobile+infographic

And yet, a lot of the best designs of the thirties hit my eye as more sleek than the aerodynamically superior cars today.

Never mind carbon fiber; where's the hemp?

The Zeppelin-era cars have the look, but it turns out air is more complicated than was thought.

It's in your new Mercedes:

HEMP IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY:
Over 30 parts on the C-class Mercedes-Benz automobiles are made of natural fibers, including hemp.
The C-class Mercedes has over 20kg of Hemp in each car!
Hemp plastic panels are significantly lighter than steel, yet stronger in so many ways!
Composite Body panels are produced using a mixture of fiberglass, Hemp fiber, kenaf, and flax.
Car body panels made with hemp can withstand 10x the impact as steel panels!
Hemp is used in the Auto Industry and found in many of today’s popular Vehicle Models.
Hemp plastics are a great alternative to petrochemical plastics and great for the environment!

Excellent! It's a start at least. If we could get over the stigma, hemp seems more viable than carbon fiber to me, and could be used in a wiiiiiiiiide variety of applications.

I agree the visuals trick the eye - the best of the thirties styling houses were basically just that: stylists who knew how to trick the eye, if not to cheat the wind. Still, I kind of wish stylists took a bit more whimsy from then and from the 50s and at least created some more visually scintillating shapes.

A good sized dorsal fin will always make it go faster.
