Geo Metro Block Heater How-to

I work at a truck/car garage and most heavy trucks have block heaters installed. These simply warm the coolant directly in the block to ease start-up. These KATS heaters work way better. I am now working on installing a Kenworth block heater outlet housing to my bumper to make plugging in even easier.

Rated to 1750w so I should be good.

They did have remote switches on sale for $6 I think, with a 50ft range, but they were only rated to 1000w. I think the timed switch will be fine.

Testdrive, on the part of "t" into lower radiator hose, the instructions show this as the way to do it. I improvised with my first attempt, I am going to try the new way and see how it goes, I am a perfectionist sometimes. Not happy quite yet.

PeterB, Napa and the Kat's part# is 28114 that is for the 1 1/4" Tee. You may need a different size. Measure your hose I.D. (inside diameter)

Bhazard, that is the same one I used. I love it sticks to my favorite K.I.S.S. method.

If the directions show that as the preferred hose routing, that's the way to go.

Do the directions still indicate a preferred routing?
They used to - way back when I installed these with any frequency.

You can do it that way, it shows that way too. That is how I currently have mine.

The main reason I am changing mine is to get it lower, increase the effect of gravity making the coolant flow into it. I just don't feel mine is low enough. The only way I can get it lower without a big mess of hoses is with the "t" I mentioned. That and I am super picky on installs, I tend to overthink them all the time.

I'm the same way, as a result even the simplest mod takes forever to get done.

We had 7" of snow overnight. It was a light, fluffy snow but lots of it. I went out this morning and the entire car was covered in snow except the hood and half the windshield

Best mod since the grill block.

So far, I've seen them at Crappy tire for 75$ CDN+tax, and also on northerntool.com for 42$ US + 22$ US Shipping + unknown duties & Taxes...
