Harley people rant!

Is it me or am I just getting old.

But why do Harley people have to rev their engines when coming to a stop.

We know your engines are not efficient just by way they run and sound why do they have to make even more annoying?

Thank God my passenger side electric window works. LOL

Many motorcyclists believe that match revving and down shifting through each gear as they slow down is crucial for proper riding technique. I was berated on the CBR250R site when I tried to tell them to do the same thing with the shifter but just don't bother with the throttle blipping and clutch letting until if and when it comes time to accelerate again. But they like the noise. rrr, rrr, rrr, rrrrrrr. Look at me. I'm sooo cool. Some kind of sound therapy I guess. Too bad the cruiser riders will all go deaf from riding in half lids with no hearing protection.

Tell me about it... I live in the heart of Harley land, Milwaukee Wisconsin. They're everywhere, and the vast majority have annoyingly loud exhaust systems to boot.

System is a stretch, most have a straight pipe

My experience is that the throttle continues "blipping" while the thing is stationary as well.

My frustration was I had an old Buick and the giant muffler rusted off on the highway, couldn't find it, car had a resonator and cat, without a muffler I was around 75db well below the legal limit, put on a cheap muffler then brought it in for some basic R&R at the local Cooter and a cop decided to examine my car and forced me to buy a very expensive OEM muffler.

I wish I could sue the dbag.

My car was quiet but yet I'm fined and Harley's can run straight pipes blasted out the neighborhood without any issue.

Because the things are so poorly built and/or tuned that they'll stall if you don't do that?

Agreed. I do the same thing with my Beetle, but it not so much to keep it from stalling as it is me trying to convince myself it hasn't died.

There was a prison guard that got off work at midnight and would fast idle his straight-pipe Harley for 10 minutes before tearing off into the night. Even a mile away the noise was obnoxiously loud. Bold move for a guy that often works alone in a wing of 110 convicts.

Beetles have a subtle but unique and satisfying exhaust note. I don't think many would consider it to be noise pollution.
