Hello je te,
I étudier thé engine behavior with thé Turbogauge.
I found something to do like eco-driving.
The fuel consumption have decreased from 8.2 To 7.3 l/100km only with that.
I Will have a look for pressure tires later.

Sorry for the T9 phone writting text...

I reach a fuel cs at 6.96 l/100 (33.8 mpg US) it is quite good, the first monthes i had the car i was around 8.5L/100 (27.7 mpg US).

I'm looking to change this car to have a car around 60 MPG target...

Hello cuda!

Bravo for the improvement. I had a Megane 3 RS before and I got that sort of fuel efficiency. Pulse and glide made a huge improvement in it.

Do you do short or long trips? Diesel could be a good thing for you in case of long trips.

If you do small trips, or trips with height differences, a lot of acceleration and braking, the main factor for fuel efficiency will be weight.

If you do long, constant and high speed trips, then aerodynamics are the key factor. You need to get a car with the lowest CdA (SCx) possible.

Et vive la France

Helo ptitviet,

Fuel saving is more difficult with the gasoline engine (Megane) than with my C3 Picasso (Diesel engine).
Behavior is different.

My using is daily trip 2 x 17 km with 2 cold start a day.
I have also a lot of heiht difference (not mountain of course).

I optimized the trip to have constant downhill to go to work, and another trip to have minimum variation to go back...

Roads are winding? (not straight) and pulse and glide is difficult. That explain my results.
On long trip, i can easily reach 6.4L/100....

I don't have low resistance tyre....

For next car, i'm looking for:
Citroën C4 3 doors
Ford Focus SW (Econetic model)

both in 1.6L 90hp Diesel engine.

If French drivers won't be so crazy behind the steering wheel, and if i don't have to "carry" my family, i'll by a Citroen Ax 14d...

How many km a year do you do for your daily job trip, and how many for longer trips/leisure/holiday?

Around 12 000km a year.
This is not really a money problem, i just want:
- A car were children can take place at the rear seats.
- A car to carry a lot of thing (DIY) whit rear seat lowering.
- A maximal economic car in the lower price....

Why?
Because i'm working on a classic car and i want to save a max of money on the daily car (the target is to divide car budget by 2....).

Since you do quite small trips and not a lot of km a year I think a petrol engine would be more suitable for you than a diesel. The diesel won't like very much being started from cold every day for "only" 17km.

And I would also pay attention to weight first (short trips, level differences).

Aerodynamics are less important for you, and an aerodynamic car will give you less inner space
