I actually read through the first one. I don't know if I could follow every one of those things, but then again i'm not looking to be the top. Though it would be cool to be a very fuel efficient camaro with great performance.

MadisonMPG- Yes its an auto. With a higher stalled torque converter- I have it at 3500 rpms and it locks up at 40mph rather than the factory stall 1800 rpms and locked up almost immediately. which is why my MPG on the highway is great, while my city mpg is probably 19-21

a8ksh4- I'd like to know what kind of aero mods ^^ I have the smooth z28 hood as apposed to the SS hood, and I'm thinking of doing the antenna delete.

SVOboy I don't know what the SGII is.. but I would like some gagues. Theres an electronic gauge that I know : Aeroforce Technology Inc | Products - Interceptor is this a good gauge?

The driving techniques are very situational. You are never going to use them all at once. You just learn them and learn to use ones you like in the correct situation.

The scangauge seems similar to the gauge you posted, it just doesn't have as many features (its arguable if the additional features are helpful or not). The SG is also $100 cheaper and can display 4 readouts at once. I suggest taking a look at it.

nice el camino! ehhh an exhaust cutout (lame) and an airlid (cai kinda). Though this summer i'm getting Longtubes and DRs. My big picture plan is to get a lumpy cam, but still try to find ways to make it more MPG friendly. I'm positive that with this car I can still have good MPGs and have weekend track fun too.

I think the LTs will help the MPGs too no?

Daox- Well, I almost never use my brakes when no one is around on the road. I also always coast when I can and constantly monitor my rpms. I will continue to read through those things however.

well i just might pick up that gauge as well as that one i posted. I bet its more accurate in the MPGs anyway.

Shameless plug alert! If you're going to get a ScanGauge, we sell 'em: ScanGauge MPG gauge: improve your fuel economy - EcoModder.com.

Helps support the forum.

You could also use an MPGuino .

Fine tuning the driver is going to net you the biggest gains quickest, and instrumentation will help. Sounds like you're already making a decent effort. Avoiding the brakes is one of the big ones.

So is keeping an up to daet fuel log so you can track your performance.

If you have a regular commute and instrumentation, every day can be a competition against your previous best. Nerd out. Log all the data.

thanks guys! my car isn't fun to drive hard on the street because i get no traction when i floor it. it just goes sideways. SO instead of driving FAST i try to best my self fuel-saving wise. its funnier that way. usually though i get in trouble and have a little fun so i don't average very good lol.

the gauge might make me totally into the whole fuel saving thing, seeing as when its raining or snowing.. theres absolutly NO WAY i'd even think of 'having a little fun'. plus traffic sucks.

question-

when i'm at a long stop light, i shut the engine down. when theres a train i shut the engine down. does this make me lose more MPGs or does it help?

GAH! It's called a shift key...

If you are going to be sitting still for more than ~20 seconds I would say you'll be saving gas. You will have some extra wear and tear on your starter / battery. If you're not driving for ~20 minutes, I don't know that I'd bother killing / starting.

Sure in a civic / similar small car that doesn't take much to start its fine. Higher compression 5.7 V8 takes a bit of juice to turn over. If you start it to many times, you're alternator will be screaming trying to charge the battery back up, possibly negating any 'gains' from shutting it off.

All other things being constant, I'm sure killing it when you're not moving is better for MPGs.

^ Ahh yes thats what I was thinking. I was never sure if the travel time VS how much it takes to start up would be worth it. Now I understand. I don't usually take long drives in the car very often anymore.
