I actually don't know it can't be more than 10 amps.
But this time I am going to extend the wires and put my DC amp clamp on it.
For protection I am going to install a 3 amp diode in reverse bias across the + and -, an MOV and maybe a 12v light bulb.
The 12v light bulb will do 3 things. It it will let me know the 12v is functional, will be like a charge bleed resistor to help smooth voltage on inductive loads and it will let me know if there are any 12v spikes indicated by it getting brighter for a split second.

Now I lost a fan and it's safety interlocking the high voltage DC system.
Apparently the fans this thing uses are not regular fans, they produce a "go , no go" signal.
So if one of them quits it shuts down the high voltage side.
Hopefully I can find one of these fans. I really don't like the idea of bypassing a safety on something like this.

How many wires and what voltage on the fans? Plenty of PC cooliyfans have a third wire that is a tachometer. I have no idea if that’s the same as your setup, but it could be.
I’ve also disassembled a few small fans over the year and repaired them by using parts from incorrectly sized fans.
Just some thoughts. Hope you can get it back up on workyon the cheap.

That's what I'm expecting. I haven't taken it apart yet.
I believe the fans are 240vac or 24vdc, cause they still come on with no 12v. I could make 120v work if needed.

It's working now.
I found a little nut plate that doesn't appear to belong to this rig inside the problem modular power inverter. I took the module out and heard something move around inside it and shook free a little square nut plate.
Put it back in and it works fine.
Some how that nut caused a non catastrophic fault that shut it down and doesn't appear to have caused any damage.
That could have gone so bad so fast.
Some how I avoided disaster.
Maybe that's what shorted out my 12v power supply. The little nut plate is to large to fall inside through the air cooling holes.

A lot of power supplies now have short protection in the output. Short it and it shuts down. If it's relatively stupid, you'd never know why.
