I had briefly considered it but the rent in Morgantown is ridiculous and I’d then be two hours from my son, it would make visitation even more difficult

I havea 2015 Genesis 3.8l

This is an excellent car for luxury. Lots of room in the back seat. Town driving gets only 22-24 mpg. Highway gets around 26-28 mpg. We love the car (ultimate package) but would not have considered it ourselves. We inherited it from my brother who passed last November.

How has it held up with mileage? Or does it have very many yet?

Total miles are ~45k so far (15k by me). Took a 5525 mile trip last month and am in the middle of a 3000+ mile trip now. The stats for the first trip are:
Trip Stats
5525 miles 208.254 gal $580.47 26.530 mpg

This includes lots of miles at 70-80 speed limits.
We have put ~15k miles on since last November. The numbers are good. I keep a log...

Have had the oil changed twice and will change it again when I get back home. Synthetic oil. Replaced wiper blades and that's all the maintenance I've had to do. Quote the dealer, "the tires are getting a little thin." They are OEM.

Basically I’m looking at a first gen car, probably with around 100-120K on it. Not sure which engine to go for, I’ve heard to be wary of the 2009 4.6 due to possible valve spring issues and to watch the 2012 5.0 due to oil consumption, I’ve not heard much about the 3.8?

My brother was friends with the owner of the dealership, so he had all work done there. I checked the Carfax and there have been zero engine issues. He hit something (dead tread?) on a trip to Las Vegas that ended up needing an alignment. On the Genesis owners page they talk of tuning, adding aftermarket intake and exhaust, etc. to get the 5.0l up to 540 whp. The 3.8l has plenty of hp, and gets ok mpg. Cd is .26. EPA City: 16; EPA Highway: 25; EPA Combined: 19. I easily beat these without extensive hypermiling.

I can't help with the other engines.

Try this Facebook page. They mostly wash and polish their cars, but now and then actually do something with it.

I figure if I got one I’d lightly mod it (despite it being a business car) and probably just drive slowly on the freeway like I do now...

And I’d love to shuttle people around in a 500+whp car... sounds like my idea of a good time lol... I’m just imagining myself in the movie “Taxi”

That would work. At 45-55 mph I get over 30, but I just can't do it in Texas with the 80 mph speed limits. Even going on the backroads (e.g. Farm and Ranch roads) the speed limits are 70-75.

Just an update. I found the one I want, it’s a 2011 Genesis 4.6 sedan with 67K on it. For about 13k it isn’t a terrible deal, and my car is having some pretty gnarly “catastrophic trans failure” kinda symptoms... it’s supposedly rated at 17/25/21mpg with 20.8 showing on its display... I’ll have to get used to only getting ~20mpg...
