The software in the Ford C-MAX Energi allows 175-mpg-e @ a constant 40-mph, without any 'hyper-miling' techniques. 145-mpg-e in stop and go.

I came up with 225.06 mpg-e
1) based on E10, with 111,836 BTU/ gallon ( API )
2) 3412 BTU/ kWh ( CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics)
3) then 32.777 kWh/ gallon ( by division)
4) @ 10.5 kWh per 72.1-miles = 0.3203 gallons
5) or, 225.06 miles / gallon equivalence, @ 145.833 Wh/mile
A Tesla Model-3 will do this at around 45-mph according to Tesla owner testimonials.
Obviously your car is a gasoline-hybrid. Sweet performance!
With 180 mpg displayed on your screen, do you think that the computer is factoring charging losses into the equation?
If you have 100% gasoline, then we're looking at 33.4 kWh/ gallon, 0.3143 gallons, 229.346 mpg-e.

Hunh? Must be discussing hybrids

By default, electric motors regulate power by changing current levels. Zero torque is zero current. Braking is negative current

Newer ones don’t always.

1. Temperature can keep it on
2. SOC set point can keep it on

My Volt loves to race the engine part way to all the way into a stop, (hard engine kill point is 19mph unless SOC is too low)
this behavior (When it happens) wastes 20-30% efficiency, my solution is to exit gas mode a few second before a glide so the engine stops much sooner.

Fords also seem to run Often enough during a glide or stop.

Toyota’s standard Prius seems to have much better controls than the plug in and you can instantly kill the engine by shifting to neutral, this doesn’t seem to work on plug ins which is unfortunate.

I guess I should have added in normal operation and after they come up to normal operating temperature.

Most of my hybrid experience is with the two 2nd generation Prius I owned. With those the engine would run until it came up to operating temperature (at get 25 mpg for the first 5 minutes) and then turn off when my foot came off the throttle. The only thing that kept the engine on was if I had the heat on and the coolant temperature dropped too low or if the A/C drained the battery too much.

I've seen similar behavior in the Ford and Hyundai hybrids I've rented. The 3 series mild hybrid I rented recently also turned off the engine on glide.

This is pretty exciting.

'Mass customization' as a business strategy is being pursued by Yamaha. And theirs is the prettiest and sweestest-sounding electric motor ever.

I want to see one on my VW transaxle. It's smaller than the zLectric/EV West induction motors. There is a picture at https://youtu.be/gGv0sVChnjc?t=763. The Medium Single (100hp) would be adequate for a Beetle.
