I paid off my student loans!

It has been over twenty-four hours and is still processing. I will post a screenshot when it clears [and then pay off the interest once I am charged for that], but here is a placeholder:

I was paid from my main job yesterday and immediately made the student loan payment.

I am going to start paying down my credit card next. I owe a little over $8,000, but it is at 0% until June.

You're on your way to becoming a free person (as long as you can pay property taxes)

The short answer is about 5.5 years. Whenever I had extra money I made an extra payment. The long answer is that I first graduated in 2007 with about $40,000 in loans, but did not have stable work until I joined the Army a year and five months later. I paid off my credit cards and $14,000 towards my student loans, but accrued $7,000 in interest because nobody told me about Active Duty Deferment. I came home in 2012, graduated again in 2014, but was back up to about $40,000 in debt.

It's great to see something working out for you. And by something, I mean a ton of somethings that worked together to get through that. Congratulations.

Congratulations.

The finances of the education system over there baffles me a bit. That is a lot of debt.

How about this lady getting $260,000 in debt (and counting) for a nursing degree?

Agreed. And student loan debt is among the only that cannot be dismissed by bankruptcy.

I have 2 friends that are married, one is a veterinarian and the other a pharmacist. They graduated with a combined $250k or so of debt. At that time, I had purchased a 4 bedroom 2.5 bath home and put 20% down. Also had an investment property in OK. I started out 2 properties ahead, and they a property behind (monetarily), and it will be some time in the future that they catch up. I've already sold the investment property in OK and have a 2nd house.

I wouldn't go to school to get rich, I'd go if you have a career in mind that requires it.
